In 2014 I posted in a thread about prick eared dobermans, wondering about my own boy who is a mix. I just wanted to share some updated pictures of him, and maybe get a poll on what everyone thinks he could be mixed with!

About Achilles:
-2+ years old, 43Ibs & 23" @ the withers
-head strong; likes to wander
-high energy (we canicross, rollerblade, run, flirt-pole)
-grows a tan undercoat during the winter but it isn't very thick
-likes his family, prefers me, but not clingy
-90% obedient; responds to a calm/firm/nonchalant tone rather than a frustrated/annoyed tone (he oddly recalls better if I say it, don't pressure him with eye-contact and pretend it's no big deal)
-friendly to everyone and all dogs, intact or not, always playful
-likely not safe with rabbits, poultry, livestock etc. Chases/whines but always stopped him before it escalated and he has never caught anything (herding?)

All I can think of at the moment, but if anyone wants more specifics, let me know :2smile:

Possible Breeds?? let me know what you guys think!

I am pulling on the pit mix side. I don't really see a dobe thing going. There are a lot of other breeds that portray the color pattern of a Dobe. I also agree with the Kelpie, or a shepherd something or something else. Can I get back to you all on what that other that "something else" is?

Does it really matter? That's a good looking dog.

Pittie, ACD and Kelpie have definitely occurred to me, I just haven't solidified if his behavior is wanting to herd or wanting to kill yet...hmm

He loves his flirt pole, and will play with it until he drops likely haha
So
Going to try him out doing some protective training (schutzhund??) and maybe a herding test, I want some more outlets for him.
Can anyone give me some pointers on how to ID herding behavior? Or potential protective potential?
