Hi everyone,

I'm new to this form. This is my first time posting here and it's also my first time raising a Doberman. I got my Doberman when he was 8weeks old. His ears were cropped. I started posting his ears these past few weeks. Now he's 3 months old. Today I decided to repost his ears since it's been 5 days since the last one. I noticed that one ear is slightly pointed outwards. Maybe I'm looking too much into it. Can you give me your honest opinion on his ears so far? I have no idea if what im on the right track or if anything needs fixing. Please advise.

Handsome pup.

You really should post through teething. 6 -7 months of age. Ears that appear to stand well, generally have issues during the teething stage. At 3 months ears flopping outwards are common. When ears start to point inward, thats when you may consider the possibiity of "pockets", easily correctable. Sam posted a great pic on this thread:http://www.dobermantalk.com/ear-cropping-posting/277393-question-about-bumpers.html

Leave the ears down no longer than is neccessary to untape, clean and dry. About an hour or so.

Personally, I think your pup's ears look really nice. Well healed. I am sure others will chime in....

Does he have a name?

Where are you from?

You have achieved much posting success / in a short time frame.
But John is right, keep at it / and we like to have puppies name...so we don't refer to them as "hey U"
OP - post a few more pictures, posted up...he is a cutie.

Could be too much inside ear skin showing & top 1/3 of ears, not straight enough yet / your 90% there.
- pull ear up & post/tape, get front & back ear edges perpendicular
- shouldn't see so much inside ear leather, from front head on view IMO / rotation more, reducing width
- make sure natural skin flap (at front of ear base), is folded back / and start taping counter-clockwise

Kelly inside ear is more visible, from side view:

Thank you Beaumont67 and 4x4bike ped for the quick replies. My name is Wael, my doberman's name is Murphy. I'm from Egypt and most vets don't even post ears, so I had to check out online how to do it myself. It's great to be part of this forum of doberman owners. I'll take more photos of Murphy soon. Thank you for the counter-clockwise & rotation advise. I get what you're saying about the ear skin showing too much from the front view. Kelly is absolutely beautiful. Great job on the ear posting. :2smile:

Do I need to give him calcium tablets or anything?

No calcium tabs--if he’s eating decent food, he should be getting what he needs.

We have a good how-to tutorial with a method for posting ears that a lot of us use--I don’t know if you’ve seen it during your research or even if that is the method you are already using, but you might want to look at it (the last step with the vet wrap is completely optional; in fact can be bad for the ears if you do it wrong, so a lot of us don’t do that part and don’t recommend it):

But it certainly looks like you are on the right track :) I like his head in that last pic.

His ears look like they are coming along, but I'd keep posting them. Just start leaving them out of posts for a few hours as long as they don't droop.... but don't leave them down overnight for at least another month or so. Some ears stand faster than others - his look like they might be done before 6 months.
