Sloppiest water drinker ever

My little boy is absolutely the sloppiest drinking dog on earth. Or is he?

My boy doesn't simply drink water with his tongue(like a normal dog). He sticks his muzzle all the way in the water and basically drinks like a human. LOL When he's done, he drips water all over the house as it slowly pours out the sides of his mouth. It's a mess. I have wood floors and I have to keep a mop near his water bowl so that I can clean up all the water he drips everywhere. Is this a Dobie thing or is it just my dog?

Max is not to bad in making a mess, we keep his bowl in the kitchen on a small mat which helps. He will not get a whole lot of water on the floor but uses us as a napkin by putting his head in our lap.

My goofball will forget to swallow the last gulp of water and have it run down onto the floor. The few times I've interrupted him while he's drinking, he looks up at me and lets his mouth hang, letting it slosh all over his feet. Once got the cat who was walking by. Needless to say, the cat wasn't nearly as amused I was.

When Sheriff drinks, the water flies out of the left side of his mouth. A mat would have to be 4' x 4' to contain it. McCoy, on the other hand, keeps the water mostly in his bowel. That is, until he walks away. It is just as though someone took a full cup of water and poured it in a direst line from his bowl for about a dozen feet. Thank god for tile floors! LOL

It does not stop with water but Mr. Happy also puts his kibble every where. He acts like the gangsters do when they pour alcohol to the earth for the fallen ones. His first bite of his food generally goes to the floor and then he will clear his bowl. I reconcile it by saying he is paying respects the the dobes that came before him. Daisy does not care about the previous dobermans since she is there to take his offering to them.

Maybe all dobes are not created equal. My girl is very neat while drinking. Maybe a tiny splash out of the bowl but very manageable with a small rug under the drinking bowl. She also eats very tidyly. Spent about 3 sessions w her to let her understand 'dont take your food out of the bowl' and she will just chew right above with any blood splatter inside the bowl or licked clean for any accident blood splatter outside.

Now the boy...boy oh boy. Drinks in the kitchen and walks out 15ft into the living room still dripping water. At some point in his life, he had kibbles too. He doesnt lift his kibble with his tougue into his mouth but buries his snout into it trying to 'bite it'. I have to feed him outside the house as it has flew at least 6 to 8 feet from his bowl and he doesnt clean up. When fed raw, i dread adding minced meat as...sigh....all tje squissy stuff even lands underneath his bowl. Most of the time, i have to let my female to 'clean his mess on the floor' and Kita gladly obliges. He also slobbers alot during walks. Many times passerby will ask me 'what is the white ring over his muzzle?' Sheepishly...i answered 'saliva'. He horror on their face tells me they are shocked but they have the right to be. I am also amazed how long his slobber can stay at the side of his mouth without dripping...probably half a block?

I'm dying laughing at these responses because it's exactly what I'm dealing with. Drips of water all over the house after he drinks. Failing to swallow the last gulp and letting it drip out his mouth. Yep, that's my MOJO. Ugh! It's a nonstop mop job around here. I've had 5 dogs in my lifetime. None of them had a problem with drinking water. This dog is like an elephant, just blowing it everywhere. :grin2:

My darling sweet Uschi also seems to create a line of water from her bowl to the first 10 feet she walks. Which, by the way, is usually onto the wood floor. Fortunately her bowl is on tile, but it's only a few feet from there to the wood. Oh well, that's what towels are for. I wouldn't trade it for the world! :grin2:

Kaiser is absolutely awful! He'll sometimes drink his water from his bowl like he's never had water before -- water coming out of the bowl and either side of his mouth onto the floor. When you say something about it, he'll stop, look at you and let the water drip all over the floor, or come to let it drip all over you or give a disgusting watery/slobbery kiss. Evil pupper!

Our JRT was always a polite drinker. Must be a Dobe thing lol.

I've taught mine to stand next to the bowl after drinking to wait for me to wipe her mouth so she doesn't drip water everywhere on the tile floor- slipping hazard! In addition she normally won't drink if no ones next to her, so we have her water bowl in the kitchen where the family often goes to. Plus I put one of those doggy potty training mat under her water bowl as it soaks water, since she tend to gulps water and it splashes everywhere around the bowl... But do change the mat once a month :wink2:

P.s you should make a video! I've yet to see a dog drink by putting muzzle all the way in the water lol!

I've had everything from dogs who abandoned the water bowl with a couple of quarts in their mouth to dogs who were so careful they never dripped but by and large most of my dogs have left enough water on my floors that many, many dogs ago the water ended up outside and that's where they drank it and didn't get to come in until until they stopped dripping. And that's where the water bucket remains to this day.

My Australian Shepherd was the neatest drinker--licked it up like a cat. The cats all play in the damned water (which is the bathroom since they are all inside cats). I had a Dobe many years ago who submerged his head up to his eyes when drinking (had a huge stock tub) and while he drank like every other dog (mouth open, tongue delivering water to his throat) he did so with most of his head buried in the tub.

It's definitely not just Dobes though.

I had to take a picture of this. It's the evidence left behind by THE SLOPIEST WATER DRINKER EVER. The water on the ground wasn't there 20 minutes before I snapped the pic. He has dripped that much water from his mouth after multiple trips to the bucket. Lol I've had to remove his water from inside the house. Now he rings the bell I put on the back door when he wants outside for water, going pee/poop, or if he sees a squirrel. LMAO
