"Gladiator" doberman

Is there really such thing as a gladiator doberman? is it a gene, or is it slang for a large doberman? I've heard 2 different sides of the spectrum. I hear there is no such thing as a gladiator doberman, but then I hear there is. I'm really not this dumb, but is there more of a definition to the "gladiator" part? Thanks guys/gals!

It's a term that sits up there with KING or Warlock dobermans. They're oversized dobermans that usually sit outside AKC standards. Usually they come from breeders that don't health test, and are just trying to make a buck. Some Euro lines are larger, but there's a difference between someone doing it responsibly, and a breeder that is just making "BIG" dogs to get profit. Stay away. Many times they have health issues. We rescued a "KING" doberman. He died at the age of 3 of DCM, only 6 months after we rescued him.

"Gladiator", "warlock", "king", etc. are all just terms coined by certain unethical breeders that are used to lure in unsuspecting or uneducated buyers. Generally these terms have been used to describe oversized non-standard dogs. It should be a red flag to any potential puppy buyer who wants to support the ethical breeding of dobermans.

Just another large dog breeder trying to capitalize on the bigger the better.
I'm working on some breedings now that will even be bigger and better, you have to purchase a special van to haul the thing around I'm thinking of a kennel name and have narrowed it down to Giganticizm Dopes or HugeMan Hunts, not sure which one I like but I've got time. They'll be expensive, the dam could only have one at a time, obviously. It'll be great. Von.

But the term "gladiator" is also used, as previously stated, to indicate very large Dobes, as are "king" and "warlock", and these should be steered clear of!

Teufelhund No cages needed. No problem these dogs will be able to THINK and can immediately distinquish from right and wrong, no more worrying about insticts . Please specify color choice, Red, White or Blue. For a nominal xtra fee I'll throw in the New School Training Collar advertized on the choke or prong thread. You just can't beat this deal and if you get tired of shoveling 20lbs. of poop every day (shovel not included in purchase price) don't worry the dog next door to you is probably a poop eater.

Now you have me laughing my butt off !!!

The strange thing is the "Warlock" key word. Borong the Warlock of the 50's, who I'm pretty sure dethroned the famous Rancho Dobe's Storm as most sought after stud and who (Storm) I think was Best in Show at Westminster two years in a row (don't know what years but guessing the early 50's) was not a large Dobe.
Obviously I never saw 'Warlock' other than pictures, but he did have a 'different' look , but I'm pretty sure he was well within the 26" - 28" standard.

Teufelhund Storm was well bred and his size was to the standard . He was also a big time winner muti ch. it bothers me to this day that his name is associated with a negative in regards to Dobermanns when we hear the word Warlock everyone thinks of a negative, when I hear the word Warlock I think of an outstanding dog.
MIA as you know a pink pup will be a delute of the red, I'm not willing to compromise my standard (as soon as I write one) and ruin my respected and hard earned accomblishments in this once and a life time breeding program. I'm so sorry I'm sure you'll understand.
( FLASH new PINK PUPSIES NOW BORN depo 32k cash only ) WOW.

I think most of these "Back Yard Breeders" that use the term Gladiator are usually more ignorant than anything else. For sure there are BYB'ers that are unethical, but at least in my area it is seems to be more ignorance than a lack of ethics. Gladiator is one of those terms that has become an urban legend. The Doberman seems to have more myth around it than any other breed. In terms of this listing I am sure it not the lines with Kimbertal in it but more the urban legend thing.
