| Okay! lol lol. I am a person who broke her big toe running up the stairs with a glass of water in one hand and cough medicine and a spoon for the sick child in the other. I feell back two stairs on to my toe and had the water splash in my face as my arms hit the stairs when I lurched forward. All by my little old self. I could tell story after story of my own lack of spacial awareness at times. I was looking at the stars on a beautiful evening and fell off a curb and sprained my ankle...so if I can do that sort of thing without a doberman smashing me around I think I'm in huge trouble.
One time I was training a 5 month old great dane pup, his name was Norman. We were heeling and Norman was doing so well trying to keep his long coltish legs in line, big paws getting away from him and failing out now and then but he got it and was trying, darling dog, darling. I hit a very muddy spot and for some reason I decided to do a right turn, I went down, WHAM in the mud, flew up high in the air on to my back. Norman was not sure what to do about this. He decided since I stopped he should sit after all we had been practicing and he was a very good boy, so he did, he sat on my tummy. Then he looked carefully at my face and leaned down, big old ears and wrinkle face falling foward, his eyes very serious, brimming with concern and he gently licked my nose. Yup I fell in love right then but his mom would not let me have him. Yeah I love danes, hubby just thinks they are too big but I have secret flame just for them because of Norman. That was years ago, this thread reminded me. Sorry to get off topic about dobermans. Hopefully I won't have anything to add. Quote:

| I am writing this from my bed, where I will be for some time, with my left leg in a cast from thigh to ankle. We had quite a lot of rain last week but it stopped for a while on Wednesday, so I quickly got out of the door with Zac to get a good walk in before the rain came back. Our usual track was pretty muddy but I know the route well and am always careful in certain parts that I know are slippy. However, turns out there's another slippy part I didn't know about and down I went onto a bent left knee, landing on a bit of rock. When I did it I knew it hurt but thought I'd bruised myself and that the pain would pass, so I carried on walking. I soon realised the pain was getting worse, not better, so I considered calling my father to collect us and take me to the hospital but I know my parents and so I knew all I'd get was an earful about being melodramatic. So I walked the half mile home, it hurt. By the time I got home I knew damn well whatever had happened wasn't good and managed to convince my father to take me to the hospital. Good job I did as I have fractured my kneecap on my left leg . The damn cast itches like mad and I'm not responding well to the painkillers so I'm going to have to do it without them. The crutches have left my armpits black and blue and my stomach is also black and blue from the daily injections to guard against DVT. I am not amused.
On the bright side, my arms and shoulders will be wonderfully toned for summer, and my waist - I ache as if I've done 10 weeks of fitness boot camp rolled into one! Plus the doctor in the ER was gorgeous - I may have to break something else just so I can go back and see him . |

Heal up soon, and yes, try to get that doc's phone number, at least!

I finally have a news-worthy dobie accident to report. So last week, on multiple occasions, my four month old dobie was lounging in my lap as usual (I think this will inevitably have to change when he hits the 70 pound mark), and I would whisper some loving little sounds in his ear and each time (like three consecutive days in a row), he would jump up with all this dobie velocity and his nose would connect with my right eyeball, followed by me running and screaming over to the mirror to see if my eyeball was squased or still spherical in shape. By the third time my vision was definitely a little blurry and I had a major pain in the eye for 24 hours. Fortunately I think he connected the dots between jumping into my eyeball and the cuddle session ending and beloved Mommy running and screaming, so it hasn't happened again, but when I see that dobie head coming my way or those dobie feet starting to levitate off the ground, I am in full tuck and defense mode, or flee mode, whatever is appropriate in the moment.

It took you three days to learn not to sweet-whisper in wildpup's ear?

You know you scare me when you laugh like that RF. When others do it I'm ok, but you are a different story. I sense too much maniacal genuineness, and frankly it frightens me. Please stop. You're scaring the puppy too. |

| There is a bite reflex that dogs have in response to blowing in the ear...
On a similar note, my puppy was playing with my old male and long story short, he came up missing an eye. I called him Boris the Pirate for a while.
The eye turned up deep in the socket, and came out and resumed its place in the world and he can see out of it just fine. Scared the sh*t out of me. Vet visit at full speed, the works. Another vet told me it was a defensive reaction and dobes are good at it since their eye is relatively small compared to the socket size - very strong eye muscles can pull the threatened eye right back into the skull (not painlessly though).

Thanks for letting us know though, so I can react calmly and confidently should it ever happen, as opposed to screaming like a banshee and passing out. |

| Ouch is right. I've broken three toes over the years, one of them twice (when I broke the toe next to it). They still cause me problems.

I broke a middle toe last year, it took forever to heal. And I can't wear sandals this time of year......maybe I'll have to cut a piece out of my runner like granny did for her corn..... |

| Shultz shoved past me on the stairs when he first got here, knocked me off balance and I reached to catch myself. Instead I smashed my finger on the doorknob and fractured it....then like a week later I bent over to to kiss Stryker on the head and he poped his head up and busted my lip. Both hurt like hell, but I'm all healed up now. Both my boys were very sorry they hurt me. I got tons of puppy kisses and sad "I'm so sorry Looks! LOL |

| I dislocated a middle toe once (doggies had nothing to do with it). It was bent at right angles and as I reached down to feel it it popped back straight again. I thought.
Of course it was swollen and bruised for over a month, so it looked bad anyway, but once the swelling went down I could see it wasn't straight after all but bent at least 30 degrees at the middle joint.
Kinda funky looking, but no hurting unless I stub it and then "OUCH!". Oh well.

| Parker got me like 2 or 3 days ago. Learned a long time ago not to bend over a dog's head
..the HARD WAY!!! However; I was bending over looking got something in the bottom of the fridge when Parker quickly stuck his head under mine to have a look-see, too. Then, having no idea what he was helping me look for, he quickly jerked his head up...why...and connected sharply with my right eyebrow.
Ouch, ouch, ouch...complete with hoarse moans and proper sympathy from Parker. |

| Rupert knocked me flat on my back the other day
We were out walking and I took him to a field where I can let him off and he was running around crazy with a serious case of the zoomies! I saw him and Tobey coming straight for me but didn't have time to move and Rupert took my feet right out of my from behind and I landed FLAT on my back. My OH came running up to me shouting OMG OMG are you ok? And he said he thought I couldn't move and had broken my back (said he heard the crunch LOL) but everything was fine Except my pride maybe... |

| Bella broke my nose when she jumped too soon to go into the house, I hadnt had her leash off yet and she just leaped up right into my face (no photos of that)
Then Nexus tore my lip as I pulled her back into me and startled her, she whipped her head back and caught me in the mouth (ouch!) took 5 stitches to close it.

| I was in the park with our Baron, who was off leash at the time working on our recalls. Baron raced towards me and I was so pleased he had finally got it. When you see your feet and the sky at the same time you know something isn't quite right! I had a separated shoulder and a dog who helped me walk home very slowly. That would be the worst injury so far, I am sure there are others in our future. |
