| I have had trouble with my red guy's coat--enough so that I think next time will be a black. That said, it is nice when all those people who would complain about a "big viscious doberman" have no idea that he is a dobe. I've heard of people alternating B/R/B etc. so that each dobe not a reminder of an often fresh grief.

| I saw my first red boy when I was 12 years old. He was your typical junkyard brute and lived across the street from my bff at the time. You could not get within 20 feet of him, but I thought he was the most majestic creature I had ever laid eyes on. So I voted red, but blacks are stunning as well and I would love to have both some day. |

| Red. The reds have a devilish spark, it's hard to explain but based on accounts from so many people... I'm confident it exists. I love my reds, to me they have something that the other colors just don't have.
But let me tell you - when I had four reds in the house, I was just itching for a BLACK - I wanted something different for a change! Then I got Ranger for a bit, and adored him. But... he didn't have that red spark.

| I am a rather traditional person, and love the classics. I'd prefer a black dobe and have one, however, there are Red's on this forum I have just fallen in love with, but, then again, I wouldn't want the skin issues.

| I don't care if it's pink with yellow spots as long as its a Dobermann but if I was pushed to decide it would have to be black.

| I love blacks, but would also own a brown. I think both coat colors are beautiful. I don't really care for the blue of fawn color

| I prefer black they look so classy and have the total look of a true doberman to me.
Sorry not to offend anyone, I can look at a red and think nice, but never the true wow factor hits me. Blacks are the original and the others like blue or fawn in my head are just dilutes. Blue oh they just look washed out and not right, sitting in the sun to long. Reds to me with there repetative skin issues are a tell tale story something is not right. I prefer the distinction of the markings on a black as well. Since you asked.................. |

| As far as skin issues with a Red verses a Black, I have had way more issues with my black girl's skin then my red boy's. He has had zero issues and has a shiny coat where Mia's is flakey and dry and we have had to get her fish oil pills and feed her certain food....
Is it usually the Reds that have the skin issue? From my experience it depends on the health of the dog correct? I know that Blues usually end up having bad skin and coat problems but I thought that it was pretty much equal for the Black and Reds? |

| I like black best but if I was taking on another rescue, its colouring would be irrelevant. I'd have taken Charlie even if he'd been bright yellow with pink polka dots (I'd prolly have dyed him a better colour later on though ... )

| Red, but not by choice. He was the last male my breeder had left. I originally wanted a black/tan, but once I saw how beautiful he was I fell in love immediately. |

| Willie's my first red. The others are/have all been blacks. Willie is definitely different - kind of like Doberman but more so - sweeter, clingier, clownier, etc. But although he is very smart, we sort of think of him as a softer, gentler and more cuddly Dobe, while the blacks have been geniuses, philosophers, true thinkers. Willie doesn't like to think too much - he likes to react. However, that said, Willie watched me doing obedience work with Alex, and then, after we were done one day, he came and sat in front of me, wiggling, putting his nose into the collar. I figured I'd indulge him, and "work" with him - to our complete amazement, I said "Willie, heel.", and he did - and knew to sit when I stopped, and everything. WOW!
Well, my choice is still a black and deep red boy. They just make me swoon. But I do love them all. (Oh - and Willie has also never had any skin problems at all.) lois |

| When I first had a love for dobies, I was into the blacks, then it went to the reds, then the blacks again. Then lastly to the reds, and has been reds ever since. I wanna red male, since most of them I met are friendly and goofy. Am I being biased, lol!! |

| Had to pick black... My boy is a black and rust and I am just in awe with his beauty or should I say how Handsome he is. I do have a soft spot for Reds, especially Red puppies.
I must say, I think Thorne is red on the inside, lol. He is soooo silly, goofy, playful and gives lots of kisses. He is reserved with people though, not as friendly as I wish him to be even though we have socialized him lots. He has a shy quality about him. It can be frustrating because I wish others could see how awesome he is and how much fun he can be...but all they see is a dog that veers away from being pet on the head. He does sniff their hands though. |

| My first dobe, Liesl, was a black and tan - to me, that was what a dobe looked like. When I first saw a red dobe, I kind of drooled. I couldn't believe how beautiful he was. My current dobe, Ruby is red. She was the last pup the breeder had, and I pleased that she was a red girl. I figured it would invite less comparison to Liesl, who was a wonderful dog.
I have since decided that I prefer reds. Something about the coloration of the eyes and hair takes my breath away.

| My first Dobe was a red-Rocky....He was so beautiful...I wanted another...He died -sudden death--I wanted another red male right away - it took 6 months but I found a breeder with longevity in her lines and I decided I didn't care what color the puppies were I just wanted a healthy boy...The litter was all black--that was fine...He is an absolutle wonderful boy and I am very happy with him....Reds still have a special place in my heart. |
