| Tricks to try??? Anyone have any tricks to get Flex to jump into mu SUV? He used to do it all the time but now, for some reason, he refuses. I have to pick his heavy ass up and place him in the vehicle. He won't get into the back or the front either. Any tips? |

| Buddy at 90# will not jump In my CRV Honda I have been using the side door so he would not be jumping so far up & down from the hatch area. This is what I did after using high value treats, his beloved ball and any thing else I could think of I use the horse method.I have one back seat down & one up so their is a little hook on the folded seat I hook the leash on the hook go around and pull him in the car. Now all Ihave to do is hook the leash on the hook start to go around to the other door most times before i get to the back bumper he jumps in on his own.??? Never had a dog that did not love to go in the car??? Buddy is fine after he is in the car just getting him in there is a problem. I even have had Patches in the car she loves to ride in the car she even tries to jump in the car but with Doxie legs she cannot make it.I just do not understand Buddy not wanting to jump in the car even when the breeder had him for a few days she had problems getting him into her van.

| lexx has days where he wont jump into our truck. notably its a ram 3500 so its pretty high, but what usually works is one person stands on one side with the door wide open and calls him, since he loves to run to mom or dad, it normally works and BOING in he goes.
have you tried that?

| You haven't mentioned the dog's age, but since this is a change in his normal behavior, a vet evaluation is in order.
Have you ever had hip Xrays done on him? If so, what were the results?
Could he have an ACL tear?
Has he possibly banged himself good once or twice, getting in, and now has a bit of fear and reluctance, due to that?
(My Ezra is notoriously ungraceful/discoordinated jumping into high vehicles.)
I would rule out a health issue first, before even trying some of the other suggestions.

| It's funny you mention that b/c about a month ago he bit it trying to get in. That probably is the problem. Any ideas on how to get him to do it again?
Also, he wants no part of getting into the side. |

| | Alpha | As a trainer, I sometimes look like an idiot to the public. But by "jumping" in there yourself during a session of play will sometimes help. If he's velcro-y onto you, he'll want to follow you into the car. Make a HUGE game out of jumping in and out of the car.
As always, given that the vet gives you a clean bill of health. |
