Mistaken Identity

Although Dobermans tend to have an easily recognized "signature" look -- especially with ears cropped -- they are occassionally mistook for other breeds. So if you want to play, specifiy if your dog's ears are cropped or natural and then say what breeds have your Dobe been mistaken for in the past?

Cropped ears.

Dog mistook for:
- as a puppy people asked if she was a MinPin
- one day some guy argued with his girlfriend and she came over to settle it: he was certain our girl was a pitbull (that one struck me as very funny)
- a few people have asked if she was a Great Dane

funny when I was walking Bo the other day some kid asked me if Bo was a great dane. (ears uncropped) and when he was a puppy one guy asked if he was a Rottie (?????)

But to a tee from the time he was a puppy on, everybody he meets LOVES bo..... I think he does the breed pretty well.

natural ear,blk & tan, dock tail.

I get Rotti mix, black lab mix and black and tan coonhound alot.lol

but some REALLY funny ones were.........

weimeraner
german shepherd (??? ok????)
dalmation
lab

i even have been told that dobies ears are born upright and that they are born tail-less,and that i DONT own a doberman or else he'd have upright ears!!!!!

Ha I got a German Shephard once. How did I forget that rediculous one.

Odd that someone knowledgable enough to know a coonhound would mistake a Dobe for it!

Baron is black/tan cropped/docked male. At the vets earlier this past summer, a man sitting next to us with a cat in a cage commented on what a beautiful Great Dane he was. The girls at the counter just sort of chuckled and corrected him politely before I could and before Baron got offended. Does this look like a Great Dane? Lois

I was at the dog park the other day and someone asked if she was a min pin...really? She is a puppy though..., a 55lb min pin?

My first boy was a fawn, cropped and docked. Even with the cropped ears, he was often mistaken for a Weimeraner.
