WTF??? Who would do that?

I have two, one red, one black, both natural ears and docked tails.

With Athena, the red girl, I get a lot of people asking me if she is a Visla. At least that's close. I've also been told that "she must not be a full blooded Doberman, they are black and have pointy ears". Uh huh, whatever you say Mr. Genius.

With Apollo, the black pup, I have a friend that KNOWS he's a Doberman, but can't get over how much he looks like a Coon Hound.

It's rare that people actually know that I've got Dobermans, but the ones that know right away get very excited to see them.

Ellie is all natural and red so can be confusing to some people we've had Weimaraner, pointer and even Viszla! My favourite bit is when you correct people and say 'no shes a doberman' people say 'oh...' and step back in fear as if the cute doggy they were happily stroking a moment ago is about to bite their arm off!

I had someone tell me years ago that I did not have a doberman. He said "you might think it's a doberman, but I know it's a chocolate bay retriever with a haircut." To think I thought I had a doberman...........

I also had someone tell me they are born red and turn black as they get older.
Someone else told me that the females are red and the males are black.

When Dante was about 4.5 months old and had his ears all taped up still, we were walking by our usual neighbourhood walking route. There was a couple of kids (5-6 years old) playing on their front lawn with their Mom. We walked pass them and one of the little kids pointed at Dante and shouted out: "Mom! Look! It's a deer!!!"

I was asked if my current dog, admittedly at the bottom of the standard at about 27", was a "mini", whatever that means. The person went on to tell me about the 30" female he used to have, but at least he seemed to have a proper appreciation of the Doberman's personality.

I was walking (different doberman) in a city park in Chicago once when a woman said, "Oh, I thought he was a WOLF!"

I've had that happen a few times. Someone will be petting Athena and ask what kind of dog she is. "Your dog is gorgeous, what is she?" As soon as I say Doberman they'll pull their hand away. Really? She wasn't scary a second ago...

"you might think you know what YOUR dog is..." People are really funny. Or stupid...

I want my money back, my puppy came out black. And my adult is still red...

I still laugh at the guy -- who claimed to have had many, many Dobes in the past -- who said, "Your girl's mother was red." No she was black. "No she had to be red." She was black. "Your girl is black and RUST. The RUST means red. If her mother was black she'd be black and TAN, not rust." My girl's mother was black.
