Wink Representing the breed *Photos & Video*

Ok, I know I didn't get to post these Saturday night, but here are a few photos and video from Responsible Pet Owner Day where we were there with Shenandoah Valley Kennel Club. We did speak for the Dobes!!! Sorry theres only two photos. it was hard to get pics with two Dobes jumping around. But I added some pics of the boys playing when we got back to the house. Oh also I wish I could have got video or photos.. but they also have an agility course. We got both Cyrus and Daemon to go through a tunnel, and them both(Daemon was scared out ofhis mind) to walk over a beam. Cyrus fell off once, and it was pretty funny, lol They also had a few dogs games, and Cyrus placed in 2 of the 3 I tried. He came in third in best thrick, Had him do some commands with just hand signals, the other was leave it. See how long your dog can go without picking up a treat or toy, we tied with two other dogs, and I tried best kiss with Daemon but he would have none of it.

This was a lady there showing how Obedience Trails are done:

This is Keith and Cyrus watching the Obedience run through:

This is a game they played w/ the dogs. Musical chairs and everybody messed up this round. You had to make your dog sit, before you could sit down. Whoever didn't get a chair was booted, lol

This is me and Cyrus doing his hand signal commands:

and some photos from playing here at the house:

Playing Tug:

I really have an issue with spiked collars. I am intrested in knowing if others feel similarly. They strike me as dangerous, and entirely unnecessary -- especially if the dog is playing with other dogs, as Daemon is in several of these photos. Dogs wrestle, roll and bite necks when they play. So if Daemon's playmate does his natural dog thing and bites about the neck or crashes into his big buddy, he's going to get a mouth (or face) full of spikes.

If the dog just wore the spiked collar around the house with no other dogs around, I would feel a little differently, but even in that environment, what happens if the dog scratches his neck and scrapes his pad on the spikes? It just seems so unnecessary! Maybe the spikes make the dog look tough, scary or cool, I don't know. I just think that it's unfair to its playmates. I know I for one would never permit my dog to play with another that has thorned armour around its neck!

I am not attacking the poster or anyone else that elects to wrap their dogs with this gear. I am just voicing my opinion -- respectfully -- about the questionable choice of collar, inquiring about the hazards, and asking others to weigh in with their points of view.

Again, I hope my comments about the collar didn't sound like an attack. It's just my opinion on them. Heck maybe there is a really good reason for them, one that I haven't considered (wouldn't be the first time!). I am mostly curious about how people feel about them and if there is a utility to them beyond what my little brain can process. That's all.

(PS: Really good video with the hand signals! The dog does GREAT!!!!)
