| The spike collars don't bother me at all. They are just dog fashion, IMO.

| Cyrus has had his spiked collar forever and has romped with many many dogs and has never had a problem, but shortly after I took these pics I did take it off because they were really getting rough Quote:

| my only problem with the spiked collars is the image it creates and the impression the uneducated masses get from seeing a dobe with one on. I remember meeting a young guy at the waterfront park here, his male had one on, didn't put me off, bold as I am I went to talk to him about his dog (my issue was the byb he got the dog from), but other people stopped me (I had a dobe with me) to let me know there are a vicious dobe in the park too, they could tell by the collar!

I had looked at the spikes largely as a hazard, but you bring up a valid concern: what impression will the "look" make on others? If this was a Represent the Breed Day, then maybe the spikes were best left in the truck? Anyway, I am sure the dogs' behavior was friendly and loving enough to overcome any stigma created by the collar.

Perhaps they just look more hazardous then they really are. Nonetheless, by virtue of your removing the collar (wisely!) when things got rough, I suppose that's a little acknowledgement that there can be some danger. Anyway, great decision to remove the collar when play intensified, and it looks like you and the dogs had a great day! |
