| Be careful biking your dog.... this past Friday evening, I was biking Quincy around our neighborhood, getting a final workout in before he went off on the show road again.
so anywho, I'm cruising along on the sidewalk and Quincy is to my left on the grass strip. We had a good stride going - going about 8 MPH according to my Cateye Velo 8 cycle computer. It was still light though dusk. So Quincy sees Mr. Skunk well before I do - it explains why he suddenly turned into sled dog and why all of sudden I was being pulled at 10MPH, then I too saw Mr. Skunk up ahead and Quincy was in full prey drive to go to Mr Skunk. As Quincy started to try and cross in front of my bike, I swerved to the left, put the bike down in a baseball slide in the grass strip, let go of the leash, and I slid front tire first into Mr. Tree. So there I lay on my side (I was not hurt, only a leg bruise) and I look over and am looking eyeball to eyeball with Mr. Skunk who froze in all the excitement. Fortunately I was looking at Mr. Skunk's eyes, not his butt (yet) and Quincy had gone into a nice down waiting for daddy to get up. I hurried up, gathered Quincy and we got away from Mr. SKunk before he decided to turn around and zap us. Mr. Skunk scurried away. I got my bike and we walked home.
Last night I took advantage of the downtime without Quincy to fully examine the bike. Badly bent front forks. Fortunately, Pacific Cycle has spare front forks and a new set is in the mail to me.
Be careful biking!!

Be careful biking!! | Yeah, I always bike with a prong collar and a safety slip collar to boot! I've had deer and rabbits but thankfully no skunks cross our path. Glad you are okay.

| Yikes...glad neither of you were hurt! Biking is one of the few times I advocate the use of a prong (as much as I hate to).
Good thing you weren't sprayed...you might have been sleeping in the gargage for a while! lol |

| | Alpha | So happy you're both ok! I can't believe you didn't get sprayed!!
I biked with Ms. F a lot when she was younger but if I were to do it again with another dog I think I'd go with one of the bike attachments for that exact reason. Whenever I biked with her I had to be really alert for things like that and it could never be a truly leisurely ride...

Whenever I biked with her I had to be really alert for things like that and it could never be a truly leisurely ride... | That's a good thought about the bike attachments... we were not using our bikerdog attachment this particular time. I wonder how things would have gone had we been using the bikerdog. As it was, I was able to let go of the lease and let Quincy get ahead before I landed on him. Bikerdog does not have a breakaway feature, so Quincy would have been unable to get out of the way, I could have landed on him or his pulling could have had a different outcome... anyway.. just wondering.
