| Does your dobe?? Does your dobe walk in circles when on the leash?? Dillon walks a few paces then does a little circle then a few more paces another circle, and this goes on untill he is off the leash. but doesn't "circle" when his leash is back on and headed home, just wondered if anyone else's dobe does this.

| My dobe does that, but not every few paces. Just when he is upset that I am walking slow or when he sees something exciting. His previous owner had a flat collar on him and Dodge figured out if he spun around, he could slip right out of it, so I think that is what goes through his mind.

| | Alpha | I'm not a dobe owner, but am questioning the herding thing... dobes weren't bred to herd. Our GSD would occasionally herd us it was more like running or trotting in your area in a close way, or almost cutting you off to make you want to walk in a slightly different direction. Going in a circle isn't a very effective way to make something move in a different direction.
I see it more as impatience or excitement, but I'll repeat the fact that I'm not a dobe owner. I'm sure you could work on getting him to do it less - it would take a lot of close observation and a lot of consistency. Or you could take up running LOL...

| Where does he do the circles? Does he walk a circle in front of you, or walk a circle around you? Tess will do circles around me when I give her a lot of leash. I interpret it as either "hurry up mom, you're so slow" or "I'm out in front, yay! But I'm not quite sure what direction mom wants to go, better check back in."
But hey...regardless of what it is, if all those extra steps help to tire her out, I'm all for it! |

| Um.
That's odd, because I've been told that 'circling' is often neurological.
I had a foster Boston Terrier in my care who did that.
He circled a lot, and it was due to pressure on his brain - it was a serious neurological issue. |
