One article I read suggests that about 93% of the blues suffer from some degree of baldness eventually.

I've only seen a few blues and fawns over the years, but they all had very patchy, balding coats.

Yep, the absolute lowest estimate I've ever seen is 75%.

Well the doberman is a 100% "bold" breed But to answer you actual question, the chances of him having coat/skin problems or CDA are rather high (at least 75% to develop CDA). Most blue dobes will loose the largest part of their coat within the first 3 years according to what I've read. My blue dobe had moderate coat thinning and skin discoloration...

My friend has one that is 9, and she has tried EVERYTHING... even all sorts of herbal things and what not.

Blue seems to be a issue with lot of breeds, even my two italians started out with a great coat and the blue part wore out. So the white is thick... and blue is thin. weird.

That 75% figure is generally for fawns who have a rather substantially better coat retention rate than blue.

There is a big variation in just how bald a dog might get but blue's from just personal observation of the ones I've seen over the years have a much higher incidence of thinning to bald coats than the fawns do.

The blues I've seen who were older seemed to have patchy areas of baldness, and then dry brittle hair in the hair coat that did remain. A blue who is over about age 5 and has a glossy coat is a rarity!

Your puppy is beautiful if he is the one in your picture. Gorgeous.

My last blue was pretty much bald on his torso but had hair on his shoulders, legs, neck and head. Our current blue has a full coat but it is pretty thin. I haven't ever seen a blue over 4 years old with a perfect coat.
