| What did/do/will you do with your dog's remains? MODS - if this is in the wrong place, please move it!
I know that this is kind of an odd question, and maybe too depressing to think about much, but it came up at lunch today. What did/do/will you do with your dog's remains when they pass?
One gal in the office said that her dad and sisters have all kept their dog's ashes. My neighbor has done this, too.
My mom breaks the law and buries them in her yard. Another coworker said that they did this too, but all involved had very small dogs.
Someone else said "let the vet deal with it" and others hadn't really given it much thought.
Now it's all I can think about and I'd rather not think about my dogs dead, so I want to decide quickly what I plan on doing and be done with it.
Anyone care to share what they have done and why, or what they are planning when the time comes?

| I have Isabelle's ashes on the entertainment center. I have yet to get a plaque for the urn. My mom has all of the dogs ashes in her closet.

| I was kind of leaning towards cremation and keeping the ashes in a nice container that I could "visit" when I needed to. But it all of a sudden occurred to me that I have given it NO thought.

| My boyfriend has suggested stuffing Odin and keeping him with us... forever. I'm opposed most of his suggestions. Personally I may just do the cremation route but I'm just going to pretend that Odin will never die...

| I too wish that our beloved furbabies would never die, but sometimes reality is very harsh. I had our previous dobies cremated, we scattered a few of the ashes over their most favorite spots in our yard and then the rest are kept in an urn. I kinda feel that they are still with us that way. I also had my father cremated, scattered some ashes off our boat into the ocean because he LOVED to fish and be on the water, and now he has a place of honor on our mantle.

| | Alpha | All of my dogs have been cremated, and put in nice wooden boxes. With one exception, they're all stored in a closet..the "heartbreak closet". I never open that door. When the time comes, those ashes will go with me on my final journey.
The exception is my Murrey bitch. Her ashes are buried next to her son, Ch. Soquel's Double Trouble, on my best friend's property in Maine. We didn't want him to be alone.

| All of mine have been cremated. They remain a part of our family.
Hubby has instructions to cremate me if I pre-decease him. He's been told to take possession of my ashes temporarily so that my urn can be opened here at home, and the dogs ashes placed in with me. Unfortunately this has to be in a "sneaky" manner as it is illegal to mix human remains with animal remains. Whatev...
I can then be placed in a crypt space with other human family members.
Hubby is still trying to figure out what he wants to do with himself. Whatever he decides, we'll figure out a way to ensure "The Girls" go with him if he is the first to push up daisies.
What timing. Our Vet just called. Blaze's ashes are back. We'll be picking them up tomorrow.

| My Tristan And Sheba were cremated and they are on my fireplace mantle ( they loved the fire) with pictures of them and a paw print from each. Our families have instructions that they are to be buried with us when we go. |

Aren't there better laws to enforce? I echo your "whatev".
Ironic, the timing of your post and the call about Blaze's ashes. Good luck, I imagine picking them up will suck. Quote:

And I think I'm going with the "buried with me" idea. It feels right.
