| Originally it was their look.
But since living with two dobes I have fallen in love with everything about them. I love the way they must be with you at all times. I love that they melt in rain. I love that they insist they are lap dogs. I love that they are equally intelligent and goofy. I love that they must be covered and have a pillow when sleeping in bed with you. I love that they think the ground is icky and should never be made to lay on it. I love that they always know just how to look to get what they want. I love how they stalk you when they are playing. I love how they love you unabashedly and completely at all times.
I dunno. I just love 'em.

| More than 20 years ago I had a cocker that I was showing, my 1st dog, I was 17. I was standing at ringside waiting to go in and the Dobes were in the ring next to me; what I saw gave me chills, I've never forgotten it. There was a breeder in my obedience classes who had several Dobes and the personalities on her dogs cemented it for me. It took me more than 20 years to get my "dream dog" and I'm utterly, completely, head over heels in love. |

| My first dobe was in 1981 and I hate to admit this but......................we were hooked on Magnum PI and his two dobes (apollo and zeus i think) were amazing so we did our research and bought Ben and 18 months later we got Zeb and we've been hooked ever since

| I grew up next door to an older couple who were loyal Dobe owners. When one would get old and die, they'd get another: always a female, always named the same thing...Lady.
So from my earliest memories, my experiences with their dogs cemented my expectation of what a dog should be. Any other dogs I saw or met were compared to Lady. None of them were as beautiful, brave, friendly, sweet, smart. There was never a question that when I'd get a dog, I'd get a Dobe. |

| My story isn't as romantic as some of the ones above. When hubby and I moved into our first house after we got married, which conveniently has almost an acre and a half fenced yard, we wanted a big dog. We both grew up with big dogs and we liked the working breeds. We decided between a GSD and a Doberman. Probably the deciding factor was the coat - I don't think I could deal with that GSD coat. But after researching the Doberman breed more, I knew it was definitely the breed for us. And now after owning one, I will NEVER EVER have anything else. The Doberman is the ultimate dog in every way! |

| | Banned | It's that look. you know the one I am talking about....the look. They are unlike any other dogs and no other dog can stand next to a doberman without being ignored. The doberman comands attention.
I also love their instinctively protective nature. I grew up without a father and for some reason have always felt the need to be protected. So now I have my man to watch out for me!
And I love the way they are just big goof balls!!! |

| I was horrified of Dobermans as a kid. Our neighbors had a pair or Reds that were rotten, they scared the shit out of me, you could see it in their eyes that if they got out of that fence they were going to take you down. I learned as I got older that there are not bad dogs just bad owners. With that in mind I wanted a big dog around the house. There was a string of burglaries in the neighborhood, one of which I foiled and had a standoff with the guy in the middle of the street. After that we discussed between a GSD, Pit, or a dobe. I love GSDs I had one as a kid but I did not want the long hair with the GSD and the Pitbull was frowned upon by everyone so I got a Dobe. Even though it has only been 3 months or so I doubt I will own another kind of dog anymore. My next is going to be a Black and rust male

| My husband is the one who always wanted a Doberman. When we got married 39 years ago, he showed me book he had on Dobermans "How to Raise and Train a Doberman Pinscher" by Natalie Stebbins and Sara Barbaresi. This book is copywrited 1958. Not sure when he got it but it was before we were married. Our first dog was sadly a Cocker Spaniel which was the dog from hell. Nasty little thing. But when we moved from the city to the 8 acres we have now which at that time was the middle of nowhere (now we are in the burbs), we decided we needed a large dog. Of course, my husband wanted his Doberman. We got our first one in 1978 and I also fell in love with the breed and everything about them. We are now on our 4th one. By the way, still have the book. Lois
