Flex swallowed a bone...please help!

Flex swallowed a small chicken thigh bone (maybe 2 inches in length). I was eating hot wings yesterdat, went to throw the bones away and one dropped....he ate it before I could stop him. Nothing has come out yet. He has not changed at all in demeanor....not lathargic, tired, etc. I have been watching his stolls and nothing has come out.
Vet told me to mix in some pumpkin pie filling w/ his food twice a day...says it'll bulk him out and make him poop quicker. I was hoping he would either digest it (as dogs normally digest various things) or poop it out. Do not want to take x-rays or get a huge vet bill.

Shane

Yesterday at about 2 in the afternoon. He last stool (about 1/2 hr ago) was solid. Nothing runny, or bloody.

I would watch him carefully for any decrease in appetite, vomiting, discomfort, lethargy, etc. If there is any question, an xray can be taken (bones show up well on xray) to see where it is.

hmmmmm pumpkin pie filling? sure he did not want you to feed him the 100% pure pumpkin in a can - much less sugar and other additives in the pure. 2 inches is kinda small - even for a cooked bone I'm guessing and hoping that his stomach acids have done their job and he has already passed the bone....just in a different "form" now. When you say you have been watching his stools and nothing has come out - are you saying that you have not seen the bone (in the form)it went in or are you saying that he has not had ANY stools since yesterday? My dogs eat whole chickens (raw) bones and all - their stools have no visible bones (in the form that they ate them) when they come out the other end.

Thanks for the reply.
She said pumpkin pie filling?
Also, yes, he has went twice since yesterday. I have been checking for the "whole bone". Maybe that was dumb to do? Sorry?
He's never done anything like this so I am kind of clueless as far as what to do. I talked w/ my wifes dad who breeds smaller dogs and he was pretty sure he'd digest it w/ all the acids dogs have (I hope).

I apologize....I did not mean to imply at all that your thinking was "dumb" in reference to looking for the bone. I just wanted you to know that not all bone comes out in the same form that they went in - due to the dogs stomach acid/digestive system. If one was to look at my dogs poop - you would never know he eats everything - to include bones...raw. Only when they have to much bone versus meat/organs will you see chawky white poop - the size of the bone your dog ate will not be reflected in his poop if he did digest it.

As others have already said - watch him - any changes....take him to the vet.

I didn't take offense to your reply at all. I just feel "dumb" about this.
I have been watching him and I just caught him trying to chew on my wifes softball! He eats anything. He eats sticks and poops them out. He has eaten a whole sock of mine and pooped it out whole! I hope he is ok. He's like my little baby!
