. I've heard a growl here and there, but really, I don't think this dog is much of a protector.

Whaddaya mean the Doberman was bred for protection? That's a laugh!

| How Protective is Your Dobe I am not sure how this poll feature works, so forgive me if this is a clunky looking post. But here's the question: How protective is your Doberman of you, your family or home? |

| I have no idea since she's never been in a situation where she had to defend. And speculation on what she might or might not do is just that, speculation on my part.

| Bella haven't met a stranger outside of the house and Beetle is more reserved. We don't really have alot of people coming over to our house but if someone comes over they are fine unless they sense something isn't right. A couple of weeks ago i had a contractor over and had kept the Dobes in the basement while I was at work. I got home and let them out to pee and when they came inside Beetle kept eyeing the guy up so I figured I'd put him in the dining room. I wasn't pleased with some of the guys work as he didn't do as i asked and while talking with him he got pissed and raised his voice. It was a big no no to Bella and she went from happy go lucky to you better get moving or else, I immeditaly removed her from the room and went outside to continue talking to the guy. I trust my two with strangers but always keep an eye out. |

London - she will place her body between me and someone in the house that she doesn't know (for example, if a repairman comes over or something). If he moves to the left, so does she. She constantly stays between me and him.
Sadie - Once when she was about 3 months old she and I were laying on the floor playing when we heard a loud noise outside the front door, and she immediately got between me and the door. Also, we "play fight" with my dachshund (who WILL protect me) and when Julie "bites," Sadie will get very upset and mouth her. Oh, and once when my husband was play slapping me to get the dachshund all riled up, Sadie came up and softly nipped him on the top of the head. Not hard, but just enough to be like "hey, stop that."

| Mine have not really been put in the positions to have to show me if they would defend so I am not sure... The only things i have noticed are...
This weekend Mia got between me and another dog that was running after us while I was walking her around the lake... This STUPID a$$ with a older looked like Weimaraner was walking behind us. The guy just let his dog off the leash and doing whatever the hell he wanted to in the park we were at. I yelled out to him "is that your dog?" He said "Yes" then I said " well arent they supposed to be on leashes?" He said "Well mine is really friendly!" Um excuse me... Needless to say Mia got between me and the other dog and when the dog came up to us she nipped at him to get out of her face and not to come any closer to me. Didnt really growl or anything but was not happy with him. The poor older dog backed off right away and I kinda felt bad for him. He had a really gray muzzle and all. She is usually GREAT with other dogs but she did not like this other dog came charging at her and I while I was walking her on a leash.
Duke has done the same thing while I have been out walking him. It is usually me having him on the leash and a strange person will be walking on the other side of the road from us and he will get in between me and them... Like he sensed something from them. Other then that nothing really. I dont know what they would really do. They usually LOVE all people but I still make sure that I introduce them properly. |

I took my girl out late one night and she heard something in the bushes behind my mother's house during an extended stay and she went, well, insane. Turns out the neighbor lurks in the trees at night (creepy!) so I don't know if that's what triggered her. Or there might have been a coyote or an opossum. Who knows. But if it was the neighbor that solicited her frothy disapproval, well that would bump her way up on the protective list! Because she wasn't just warning him. She was going to escort him out of the bushes with her teeth.

I think quincy thinks he owns the streets at night - he is hyper alert, walking on tip toes, watchful... anyway, the yahoo (Mr. Clutter) that lives on the corner up the street was lurking in his bushes by his window. Quincy sees him before I do and he let the guy know in dobergrowl, hey dude I see you... then the guy pops out with a sheepish grin and a nervous "I live here".. I just muttered, "Oh, I know" and we moved on.
Besides that, Quincy is your typical watchful dog in and around the house. We know when someone is nigh.
