| | Alpha | Horrible, horrible, gas, I mean horrible, help please. Ok, so Bumpy has horrible, horrible, horrible gas. I can't explain how bad it is other than mind boggling. I have not done a change in food so wondering why this is happening. He has always had the occassional gas issue...don't they all, but this is all day, every day. I wake up in the morning and I can't breathe in my room.
He is on Canidae all life stages, combined with ground turkey on top and a teaspoon of Evo mixed in with it. Any suggestions on what changes I might need to make. Constantly having incense lit for company is getting a little ridiculous.

| besides making for fun party discussion, it is a sure sign signal that it might be time to change foods. Canidae just might be too rich for his system.

In other words, did you add that recently or have you been feeding that for awhile? With Indy, if we give him too much protein, he gets really bad gas. We used to feed him EVO, but had to stop due to the gas. And feeding him too many chicken jerky treats will do it too. Oh and peanut butter, we don't let him eat ANYTHING with peanut butter in it! | Excessive gas is not normal and if a dog has it then the food is not agreeing with him. I have read that Canidae has changed formulas, so maybe the new one doesn't agree with him. Check the dog food sites I have listed below and try to find a new one.
Bumpy can't be getting into anything can he, or neighbor feeding him??? |

| | Alpha | Thank you. I do recall hearing that Canidae made a change. It has not affected my pit, but maybe Bumpy's system is more sensitive. I will look at the dogs foods listed and change something. The Evo and turkey has been since January (as I cook for my dog with cancer) so I add a little to the two others dogs food. I figured something was not normal and I am sure it can't be that comfortable for him.
He sleeps in my bed so you can imagine what I am dealing with, but all joking aside I don't want him to have a stomach ache...poor guy. Thank God all our company takes it in stride, but in all honesty it is like a rotting sewage system and I need to help him. |

Good luck - My Jazz had days like that (usually when my daughter gave her people food) It really is a horrible stink

| | Alpha | Each and every day, all day. Even when he is outside with me in the backyard I can smell it. Definately something wrong with what my poor guy is eating. He does not have access to any other food then what I give him. |

| Hi - Dobermans tend to be a little more delicate in the digestive tract arena - and they are definitely extraordinarily talented in the fluffies, if given half a chance... Ours can empty an entire house with no problem, given the right circumstances!!
I have found for years, and through a number of dogs, that turkey and dogs is not a real good combo - chicken is great, but turkey has made every one of our Dobermans, and a couple of our other dogs, pass something that goes beyond foul, and into the realm of toxic. And certain types of treats and other foods do the same.
I think you ought to transition to a different food (and it seems a lot of folks on this forum really like ProPlan, which we haven't tried yet), and pay close attention to what you put on it, and what treats you give - maybe even put a log of some sort on the fridge, and track it. That way, you can stay away from all the farty stuff.
Our Dobes love treats, and it's taken us a few years to figure out what all are able to tolerate, and weed out the rest. We make chickens, roasted or stewed (they like the broth, too, and we put carrots and vegies in it), ground beef, livers and hearts and stuff. Tripe is good for them - I just haven't done it.
I used to make my own dog biscuits, but i think they were too rich, because the gas was unreal. Good luck with your detective work! Lois |

| I give Rocky Canidae All Life Stages too; however, I do not give him any people food. Have you thought about trying just giving him the Canidae and eliminating the ground turkey , etc. Canidaes's new formula has more protein in it.
Also, I sprinkle something called Absorb More, which is supposed to help with digestion and sensitive stomachs.
Good luck. |
