| my boy Lexx - to crop or not to crop? u choose There's been a lot of talkabout cropping ears lately and I've been sitting here looking at my boy Lexx wondering what he'd look like with pointy ears. I've got a big pair of leather cutting scissors in the garage and am considering lopping off about 40% of his fine long ears - hope I can stop the bleeding. Thing is I'm just not sure whether to go through with it or not, apparently he'll not feel it at all, there is no chance of infection, and he'll look much better than how god created him - and lets face it all I care about is how he looks! Perhaps you can all help me and vote on whether I take a nice big chunk out of my pets lugs or not - simply post yes or no and when I get a tally of 20 yes' or no's I'll go with that decision.
OR now that I've got your attention
Perhaps we can all get back to getting on with each other and put our differences behind us whilst concentrating on the good things that these forums bring us. I've learnt loads of good things in the last few months here and believe it or not do respect others opinions.
We all need to understand that this is an INTERNATIONAL forum and we in differing locals may have differing opinions. I'm big enough to admit that I'm probably not that tactile at times and may offend (although that is never my intention) In fact I do try to provoke thought at times instead of just saying what I think people want to hear.
Perhaps the US members should realise that cropping etc. has been banned here for a reason - the passion of our people for our pets.
Vice Versa perhaps us Europeans should respect that not everyone shares our opinions and no matter how much we disagree with cropping etc. our trans atlantic cousins do indeed love their pets as much as us.
I've said in a previous post that I don't particularly like the look of a cropped eared dog and I stand by that but that doesn't mean that I can't look past that and see what beautiful creatures they still are - theyre Dobes for god's sake, I'd love a three legged one with one eye.
I understand a compatriate of mine managed to insult a few of you today and although I will not defend him (and I'm sure he would not wish me to anyway) his point was sadly missed. I believe all he wished to do was point out that such a small amount of words can, and have, in the last couple of weeks provoked massive brawls amongst a usually peaceful crowd of people - to my mind it worked!
As I stated above I may sometimes be the one to provoke a little rowdiness in the course of getting true opinion and if I offend I'm truly sorry but make no mistake I will always research what I say before I post. I get the feeling sometimes people here just say what they think rather than looking to fact - I have seen some truly bad suggestions here as well as some truly ingenious ones.
I guess what I'm saying is I like it here and want to continue using these forums to educate myself from the wealth of experience and to hopefully add some reasonable input for others from my own personal experience (Not every post I make can surely p*** people off can it?). We should probably agree that we are pasionate about our Dobes but may have differeing opinions.
Sorry to take up so much of your time - Here's a pic of my peaceful Dobe sniffing a flower to cheer y'all up

| Is it just me, or is it usually the natural-eared advocates that start this stuff?
I don't particularly care for the look of an uncropped dobe, even though some member here have beautiful natural-eared dogs. I just prefer the cropped. I don't jump all over anyone for disagreeing with me. I don't think it's asking too much to be shown the same courtesy.
And I don't think dusuwho (or whatever his name was) had any honorable intentions with his post. Sorry.

| bren- The original paragraph in your post does not sound like "tolerance" to me. Perhaps I'm missing the sense of humor in it, but I don't find it funny at all. I think we just need to let this issue drop.... |

I love my dogs. I can confidently say the same thing about the people that I have become familiar with on this forum who have cropped dogs. To suggest that we cruelly butcher them is really insulting.

Here we go again - I tried to make peace without comprimising my own opinions.
In fact go **** yourselves you cruel ***** - maybe you'll realise soon that you are the vast MINORITY in the world when it comes to this. You just dispell everyone else' opinions as removing your CHOICE you dumb redneck ***** - A dog has no choice whether you **** with it's physical being in favour of what YOU think it should look like. Would you find it appropriate for someone to crop their kids ears??? why not what's the difference? I'd like to come over there and take a knife to your ears you dumb ****wits - that's MY choice is that OK???? I choose to crop your ****ing ears got a problem with that? It's my choice after all and that makes it right doesn't it?
Believe me the day is coming where even in your land of the ****ing free you will not be free to mutilate dogs.
Perhaps BSL is the best thing for over there as you all seem to treat Dobes as a ****ing loaded gun ready to go off at any time, they're dogs for **** sake if you can't handle one don't have one. You treat them as if you need some ****ing magical powers to own one, and when you do own one you reserve the right to tell everyone else that they shouldn't own one.
Also you all make me laugh with comments in one post such as " My dobe goes nuts when anyone walks near my property and barks and howls and gnashes his teeth until the person crosses the road LOL" then in the next ****ing post we'll read from exactly the same member "I was walking my Dobe today and someone gave it a dirty look and crossed the road, I call this breedism and ignorance". For **** sake one minute it's cool your dog frightens people the next it's "breedism and ignorance" Wake the **** up and realise that people are scared of big dogs - perhaps cos big dogs can tear their ****ing face off you dumb *****.
Of course there's no point in responding to this post as I shan't be coming back to read them DSUWHO feel free to email me before they close my account down.
