| Canidae formula change question What did they change that's supposed to be so bad now?
I've been feeding the Evo for over 6 months now after our pet shop said they were going to be carrying it, but after all this time they still haven't gotten it in, so we're getting tired of driving all over the county to get it.
The only other decent brand our local store carries is Canidae, so I was thinking of trying it since so many of you have fed it with good results. Now I'm hearing all of the bad press about how terrible it is after the formula change, but nothing says what the change was and why it's so bad.
Any insight? TIA.

| I used the old formula of Canidae All Life Stages. I just started the new formula two days ago. Rocky loved the old formula; he seems to love the new one, too. Where did you hear that the new one wasn't any good????? |

| | Big Pup | I don't know, but I doubt the change is terribly significant from a nutritional standpoint. A pet food processor may change, for example, the ratio of rendered bone-and-meat meal to poultry byproduct meal, or change additives, or alter the mix of fats and digests they use to spray the food to make it more palatable, but the end product is basically the same, a mass of processed junk. And there's no law requiring the manufacturers to inform consumers of these changes, so you can never be entirely sure what you're getting. |

| There was a post on this recently where the changes were discussed in depth. I'm sure you can find it if you do a search. Sorry I'm not of more help, but since I don't feed Canidae, I didn't pay much attention.

| New Canidae Formula Feeding New Canidae Formula?
Hope that helps, we feed Canidae also and are investigating other options.

| Just began switching over to Canidae and the smaller bags were still the old formula and it was time to buy a big bag and its the new stuff, 35lbs so we'll see how Gunnar does. Actually he seems to eat the same amount, and actually has pooped less in the last day and half, but that might also be due to his vaccinations and stress from vet visits. So I'll keep an eye on it! my local pet food store has everything, from Karma, to the bad cheap stuff so I can make a different decision later. Thanks! |

| Also have the same problem. Baron has been on Canidae ALS since February. The person we adopted him from was feeding him Pro Plan Chicken/Rice but I felt he was pooping too much and he was very gassy. Since being on Canidae poops have decreased and no gas. We are half way through a bag of the new formula and have not noticed any significant changes. He is a great eater so no changes there. Just going to wait and see how he does. Lois |

| Thanks all, and thank you for the links TrexFanatic. I did a search yesterday before I posted this, but didn't find either of those threads....
I guess we'll keep driving the distance for the Evo until our store can come up with something decent.
I thought the Merrick BG (Before Grain) sounded promising, but after trying it for a couple of weeks we were totally disappointed. I told the pet shop manager that I might as well go and buy something like Ol'Roy to get that quality. The only thing I've heard in some of the complaints is that there are too many potatoes in the formula, which could make sense if they need a filler and tout the no grain thing.
