| | Alpha | I heard the urban legend the other day at work.. We were eating lunch at work the other day when the topic of conversation got around to dogs....
and then it happened, somebody came off with the "A doberman will turn on it's owner because its brain is too big for it's head" BS....
I actually kind of had some fun with it though.... I asked the guy this one, well if it's brain is too big for it's head what happens to the excess brain tissue? Does it drain out of their ears?
Then I politely told him that this was an urban legend and not true at all... So he proceeds to tell me I'm wrong and that his neighbors had a dobie so he knows this for sure... So I politely tell him that I myself have a big, beautiful Red Boy that is extremely well behaved and that it comes from good training and socialization... and the people he was talking about (but i doubt if those "people" really exist too) most likely abused ro never trianed their dogs properly and that is the reason why the dog (if it ever existed) would have defended itself against them.....
So was my thinking right in my response? |

| You should have added that the reason a lot of dobermans have cropped ears is so that you can see the brain coming out when it grows too much and therefore have an early warning to get out of the way of this wild and viscious animal. |

| | Alpha | I had a women tell me the same thing. My response was....."Well, as luck would have it, that is the exact reason I chose a Doberman! I want to see how long it takes before Mojo attacks and eats me".
The women gave me a puzzled look and walked away. |

| Physiology/anatomy is not an opinion. It's physically impossible for a dog's brain to outgrow the skull. He can ask a vet if he doesn't believe it. Although, ignorant people are difficult (if not impossible) to educate. And quite frankly, some people are just not worth wasting your energy on.

| Hey, when I first came to this forum I thought it was true...and was quickly given the critical smack down lol! All it took was someone to tell me that it was an urban legend and that was that. If somebody doesn't get it when you tell em, I think Lyngr's suggestion is great...tell em to ask a vet.
