I really had started this thread here
Warning! Photo Dump. Don't miss the Chi vs Dobe pics at the end..., but decided I’d start a new one to continue posting about our trip. Sorry about the picture size. They should appear fine on a wide screen monitor. I got spoiled by the auto resizing.
After we left Orlando (btw, Em showed three days taking third place twice), we headed over to Fort Desoto. Velmadobe had recommended the dog beach there to us last year. It’s about a 45 minute drive from my in-laws and we had a really nice time other then one scare. I’ll let the pictures tell the tale…
Em coaxing Lena into the water…
We had walked to the beach from the restrooms and skipped the dog park. We had a nice open stretch of sand to ourselves. It took awhile and a walk for me to figure out why. Yes, that’s our stuff on the wrong side of the sign…
View of the correct side of the sign…
Nasty stuff…
Lena decided hanging out by our stuff was better then hanging out in the water…
We almost had a really bad experience. I should have realized that with the few number of people walking by and with my being off in the water, Lena would go from hanging out with the stuff, to Lena guarding the stuff. I should have seen it when I took this picture…
Lena rushed at a woman walking along the water from the pier. She let out a bark and with an ominous growl ran at the women. I saw it happening and yelled at Lena to leave it. Lena ignored me. Thank goodness the woman was a dog person. She yelled, “Dog, get over here!” Scared the bleep out of me. By the time I got over to them, Lena was rubbing on the lady for petting. The woman was probably in her 60s and in a thick southern accent told me she wasn’t scared. I shouldn’t worry about it. She had two wolf dogs at her house at one time and still had one of them. Her kids had the other one. She told me her wolf dog was so wild she wouldn’t get near a car and that she had to have her vet come out to the house for checkups and shots.
Next time we will do better to avoid this kind of incident. It could have had a really bad ending. As it turned out, all was well and we had a great day.
