| Neighbor Wants to Breed Our Dogs - Advice Please I take Baron for walks occassionally passing this specific house. The owner has a female doberman, 4 or 5 years old (I can't remember), and they really want me to breed Baron with their female. This owner is very persistent. He wants to pay me, etc. He said the main (only) reason he wants to breed his doberman is because she is a female and is really hyper. I told the guy to just get her fixed but he said that won't work and that she needs to have an actual litter to mother, he told me that females calm down once they have a litter.
Is what he is saying true? I highly doubt it. It's pretty sad/disturbing that there are probably tons of people out there that may think the same thing, which lead to a ton more unfit breeders.
I have ZERO intention of breeding, and I am getting Baron fixed in a couple of months. But I've tried (without being too much of a jerk to a neighbor) to convince him not to do it and that it is something he shouldn't be interested in and to get her fixed, but he's not getting it. Anything I should do or say specifically? Or just hope that since he's yet to find anyone in a few years to breed with it just won't happen? |

| It's an old wives tale that having a litter will calm her down. Poor dobe girl Dobes have energy.. duh...if he wants a couch potato, get a basset hound!

| Simple....just tell him you disagree with his views and Baron isn't available to breed to for ANY female and it's nothing personal. It's your dog and he can't make you do anything you don't want to with him.

| /\ Well, I've made it clear to him that I'm not going to breed my dog... but I was curious if there was any advice out there to convince him to not breed his female at all to any other dog either? Somehow change his thinking? I thought telling him to get her fixed would work... |

| I have someone near me that always asks me that same question. I feel so horrible for this female dob, and she keeps having the 'need' but can't get the want
Poor little lady!
I will never breed Logan, so I just go along with him, as he keeps asking me everytime I see him. He's wasting more of his time, than mine! |

| Well BvW602's, you make up your own 'old Wives tale'. You tell him that his bitch looks to have too short loin, and hasn't he heard that if you breed a bitch with a short loin he will have to have a C-section to remove the puppies cause she won't be able to have them on her own. And A c-section will cost him about $2000.00 or more. And look really serious when you are telling him this. Let me know what he says.

| DLS i love your reasoning.
People ask me ALL the time if I'm interested in breeding Lexx. At the greenhouse on the weekend I had two seperate people ask me if I'd be interested in breeding him... in about 30 minutes! Its totally ridiculous. Good for you for standing your ground!

| never ceases to amaze me the stupidity out there! these people who want to breed b/c the bitch needs to, please, they're thinking easy money- they need a reality check with the real cost of raising pups! or maybe to see an actual birthing, LOL, I had friends email me after seeing pictures of my litter, wanting to know if that was blood on the papers, not sure what they were expecting.

| join me in my new approach to ignorance and stupidity... just be blunt.
"Look, dude, that would make you an ignorant backyard breeder, go educate yourself about all the unwanted animals waiting to die in animal shelters because of ignoramouses like you. I AM NOT a backyard breeder, I am not ignorant and I have no intention of breeding my dog. Good day."
see how that flies.
