Email to Dallas Mayor on Spay/Neuter Law

here is my email:

Tom-

Listen to you all the time on Mike's morning show- wanted to write and tell you that the spay/neuter law is an awful idea and why. I think a lot of people misunderstand what pains responsible breeders go through (and expense!) to maintain breed integrity... showing and titling of dogs, extensive search for suitable stud dogs etc. Did you know most of these dogs already have waiting lists for puppies by the time a decision to breed has even been made?

I currently own a show quality male doberman. He cannot be neutered or he cannot compete for his conformation title. Even if he does get his championship- it might take a few years to fins a suitable female to breed him to.

Instead- we need to adopt legislation like fort worth has done to shut down back yard breeders! These are the people causing the problem. Just the other day in flower mound of 3040 there was a BYB (back yard breeder) selling 2 litters of shitzhu's!!! no screening of potential homes, no thought as to furthering the breed- just putting 2 dogs together to make a buck. They sell to anyone with a check book, and those are the pups that end up in rescue! Fort Worth has now made it illegal for these guys to set up shop. What else can be done? Not allowing these people to advetrise in the newspapers- or shutting down commercial kennels is an excellent start everyone can get behind!

This current law being proposed is a lot like a bad gun law- are you really punishing the criminals? or the good responsible people that DO follow laws and do NOT contribute to pet overpopulation?
