| Most women just have the nuturing and mothering thing down. Someone should do a study to see if women dog owners have higher levels of oxytocin than non dog owners and if those levels were the equivalent to those experienced my non women dog owners in loving, commited relationships.
That would make CNN. |

Stop the gender profiling or we'll have M.S.L(male specific legislation). Yes some men are a danger to the population but we're not all bad. My gf likes the Dobes but is very limited in helping out with training, feeding,etc... I tell her all the time that when i find a women who loves Dobes as much as myself she will be replaced, funny part is she thinks i'm joking.

I feel your pain. Donnie is completely worthless for doing/noticing anything with the dogs. If I'm gone at training and he's home I worry about the animals all day. He takes the macaw out of her cage and puts her on her playstand for the day, but doesn't bother to give her food or water. Even when I call him a couple of times throughout the day to REMIND him to make sure Bailey has food and water on her stand he STILL doesn't do it. If the dogs water bowl is empty it goes unnoticed and will stay that way. I really worried when I went to a dog show a few hours away and left him in charge for the whole WEEKEND. I called and reminded him over and over again to make sure the birds had food and water and that the dogs water bowl(s) were full. Of course when I got home Sunday night the cockatiels hadn't been fed or watered AT ALL all weekend, Bailey had no food and no water on her stand that she had been on all day, and the dogs water bowl was bone dry. I could go on and on, but you get the gist of it.
The good news is, even though he ignores their basic needs, he absolutely loves and adores them and constantly showers them with love and affection, which is priceless.

I call from work to remind him and he says he'll do it, and then still doesn't! Glad I'm not the only one...
The weird thing is that when we were thinking about getting a dog, it was going to be James' dog. Even when we were going over to the breeder's house to visit the pups every 2 weeks, it still felt like his puppy.
But now Red is more my dog than his. I do all the training, grooming, health stuff (vaccines, caring for the cut paw pad, etc), and if I'm around, Red is velcroed to me the entire time. Even if I go to bed early, Red lays right by the side of the bed and goes to sleep too.
James loves Red and does take him on errands occasionally and plays with him, but he's mine now for the most part (even though I'm listed as "co-owner" on his paperwork) |

| I wish i found this site before i met my gf. So many unhappy women who could use a doberloving, training, feeding, dish washing, floor sweeping, dinner making man. Damn the bad luck. And yes i do all of the above

| I TOTALLY understand!!! I've been dealing with this ever since we brought Risa home in October. No matter what I say, my husband hasn't gotten any better. When Risa was younger, I resorted to not letting her alone with my husband. If I wasn't home, she was crated or in the pen. When she was really young and getting into everything, I'd even take her into the bathroom with me when I'd shower. My husband was downstairs in the living room, and I didn't trust leaving her there for 15-20 min. while I showered and dried my hair. One day I stepped out for a few minutes. Risa was loose and in the living room with my husband. She had a toy and I told him to be sure that she didn't rip a hole into it. When I came back into the room, there was fuzz all over the couch RIGHT NEXT to my husband. When I asked him about the fuzz, he was like, "What fuzz?" I then found the toy with a huge hole in it. I was furious! She was RIGHT THERE sitting NEXT to my husband... shredding away on the toy. He was on his laptop computer and was CLUELESS as to what was going on. I've tried being sweet, being angry, ... I've tried the clicker method with him (LOL). Nothing works. I think I have to accept that no matter what I do, he's never going to be as observant as I am. So while Risa is still young and chewing on everything, she will not run free in the house while I"m not home. Your work day is longer than mine, so I'm not sure what advice to give. I frequently work from the house. Maybe puppy daycare with somebody who you trust?

| I think I will chime in on this topic as well. I think my other half useless sometimes when it comes to doing things for the dogs. I will call him during the day and ask him to do little things for the dogs like to wash their beds, brush their teeth, or give them medication. He promises that he will get RIGHT on it. I come home and he hasn't done anything that I have asked?!?!
Although he does all the cooking and cleaning everyday. He can't do simple tasks that I ask of him for the dogs.
He does LOVE our dogs to death, plays with them, teaches them new tricks, feeds them so he isn't that bad per say. |
