| | Lil Dog | Mosquito repellant? Does anyone use any mosquito/bug repellent for their dogs? Do they make any that are safe for dogs or made specifically for them that work well? I live in MN..where the mosquito is the state bird..ha! And plan on taking Mona out to some 4th of July festivities and don't want her to get bit up. I know there's advantix (I think it has some sort of mosquito/bug repellent in it, i don't use it though)..but I would like to get something that I could just spray on her quick any given night when the mosquitos/bugs are bad. Thanks!

| I use Ultra Shield fly spray for horses. It repels mosquitos and is safe for dogs, I use it on my clothes also.

| I have been expirementing with Listerine mouthwash. I spray it full strength on myself as the bugs just looooooove to bite me. It is working, they don't like it at all. I sprayed it around my deck too, no nasty biting bugs hang around it at all. Tried it on my dogs too, I sprayed it on my hands and then rubbed it all over them, they smell good and the flies are staying off them. |

| People swear by the Avon product "Skin So Soft". Personally I dislike the smell but it does work and it's not too strong of a smell for sensitive noses. Nice on their coats too, oil up the dog!

I would however like to know how you discovered this...

| I actually have a bottle of natural oil repellent, which is a mixture of essential oils diluted with water - lavender, citronella, etcetc. it smells great, if a little pricey, but I do spray it on Moonshine sometimes.
I spray listerine mouthwash (the original version , i.e. no mint or orange flavour) onto Moonshine as it helps relieve itching (he has a skin-bumps problem), but I didn't know it helps with mozzies. that's news to me! |

| dobekiss, I have LOTS of spare time to 'try' out ideas. lol.
But actually I was chugging down some Listerine, spilled on myself and noticed NO BUGS were following me around. hahahh
Truthfully though, My MOMMY emailed that idea to me. In between all the jokes she send she sneaks in a usefull email now and then. |

| I have used Avon's Skin So Soft too.
I mainly used it for biting flies that were attacking my dogs ears. I have used it on myself for mosquitoes and I had to reapply every so often, don't remember a time like hour, etc.
I have also used horse sprays with success. |

| topic of much discussion where I live, this has been a very bad year for mosquitos too. so, here are a few things I've heard, rub the dog with a dryer sheet and then tie it around their collar ( friend with boxers swears by it), skin so soft (but not during black fly season, it attracts them), make your own, cut a lemon in wedges, cover with 4 cups boiling water, add a large sprig of fresh rosemary, let sit 24 to 48 hours, strain into spray bottle, store in frig (I have used this one and like it), the other thing I have used is childrens off, but I make sure to wipe the dogs down after our outing.
