Hey everyone. I just started grad school this summer, and for my first course, we are required to write a research paper. The course is in government (policy, to be specific), and we can write about any current topic in public administration that we can relate to one of our course topics. I chose to do my paper on breed specific legislation.
I am starting my paper today (it is due Monday, so I'm going to try to have it submitted by Sunday night), and I am on the hunt for anything dealing with BSL. Does anyone have any websites or info that they can share with me? I will be looking for specific cases and laws. Any cities you can direct me to that have enacted BSL as a result of an incident that I could research on my own? ANYTHING you can provide would be greatly appreciated. I need to tie my BSL stuff into how different levels of government respond, and how the decision making process works.

Denver is a biggie on BSL so you might want to look into that. Also the Netherlands just pulled their BSL after I believe 10 years of the ban on pitbulls not working. Those are some things to go on. I will try to find you more.

| Here in San Antonio we have a organization called Responsible Pet Owners Alliance. They are really big on keeping the politicians under control with BSL, maybe you have something similar in CO?

| | Alpha | Those are all great sites. There is a city in IA that enacted a pit bull ban about 2 yrs ago. It is being discussed currently here since there was 4 attacks in the last week by pitbull mixes(though they have changed to pitbulls by the end of the day by the media) and the worse scalping a 15 month old girl. It is on the tables with the officials how to deal with it at the moment.

| Google 'Breed Specific Legislation Ontario Canada' for a list of sites on the subject, incl the Dog Legislation Council of Canada. The interesting thing is that "dangerous dogs" are defined by the Ont Attorney General's Office based on past behavior of the animal and not the dog's breed. Therefore, could apply to a terrier or a pitt.
