Please say a prayer for Nissa

Last night, my husband was working in the yard and Nissa was out back playing with him and keeping him company. He noticed around 8:00 pm that a brand new bag of insecticide (which was put up on the side of the house) had been chewed through. We couldn't tell if Nissa had gotten into the insecticide as she was acting normal, eating and drinking as she should and was alert and playful. So, mistake #1 - we didn't suspect anything and didn't act accordingly.

About 1:00 AM this morning, we awoke to Nissa vomitting. As we proceeded to take her outside, her rear legs gave out and she collapsed. We immediatley took her outside and try to stand her up again, and she could not stand. She wouldn't take any ice cubes and didn't want to move overall. We called our 24 hr clinic here in town, and brought her in around 1:45 AM. We brought a sample of her vomit and the bag of insecticide that we believed she injested.

They called the poison control center (I thought they were supposed to know this stuff??), ran a full blood panel and everything, including her liver/kidneys, came back normal this morning. However, they have her on IV's and will be monitoring her through today with another blood panel to confirm the first one, and will more than likely keep her overnight tonight.

We feel so, so horrible and guilty because we didn't lock up the insecticide as we should. My husband was watching her as he was working, but as we all know, it takes just a split second for young curious pups to get into something they shouldn't be. I think I got maybe 2-3 hours of sleep and I can only imagine what my poor little girl is going through at the clinic. I can't stop crying and I am so scared.

I guess I just wanted to post this and reiterate how fast our loved doggies can get into many of the posions that live in our homes and yards. I don't want to see any of you go through what my husband and I have gone through the past 7 hours.

If you can, please say a little prayer for our little Nissa-girl. She's a tough girl, but the prayers will definatley help and much appreciated.

Do you care to share the info on what type of insecticide? Slug bait?

Was it an organophosphate?

Thank you for your kind words - all of you. I'm just so upset that we weren't better parents to her.

RedFawnRising - I believe it's the insecticide by Scotts Lawn Care. I'm sorry - I don't have the exact name and currently, the bag is sitting at the Vet's office. It happend all so fast and I didn't really pay attention to the name. I'll make sure to let you all know when I confirm the name of the product.

I hope she will be okay... it sounds like she is doing better already. Don't feel guilty about something that's simply an accident. You and Nissa will be in my prayers
