| | Alpha | Microchip implanted wrong My understanding is that chips are supposed to be implanted into the connective tissue under the skin. That correctly placed you should not be able to feel the chip itself.
I am asking because I have a 14wk old pup that it was implanted in just under the skin of the neck towards the base. The chip itself is very easy to feel and I have marked the coat above it with nail polish to keep an eye on whether it is moving. It does seem to be moving a bit.
Should I plan to have it removed before it creates an issue slipping under the shoulder etc. or is that much movement unlikely.

| My vet has done all of my dogs microchips and I could not even tell where it was done immediately afterwards - I have them checked yearly to see if they are still in place ............ so far so good.

| | Alpha | Actually in some animals it is quite easy to palpate the microchip under the skin - has nothing to do w/ implantation, but rather the thickness of the skin/amount of fat/shape of the animal.
I have always been able to easily palpate the microchips on my siamese cats who were all the slender show type. I can also palpate my bunny's chip.
If there is any question as to the location of the chip or its function, have your vet scan it whenever you are in. |

| | Alpha | Thanks, I plan to have him look at it. I am mostly worried about it moving under the shoulder blade or some sensitive point.
I honestly did not think to feel for it when she went the first time.
Hopefully as she gets her weight to where it should be it will be fine. Its not feeling it that bothers me its the idea of it moving around much.
On the bright side if it does have to be removed it should be fairly simple, based on it being easily found and not in for long (since the bath broke out the mud and blood plug being kept outside built up).

| Doesn't sound quite right to me that there was a blood plug noticable... but keep us updated! I hope it all works out! |

| | Alpha | Oh boy, I thought it was a worry-free process? What is the worst thing that could happen?
Hope that everything will turn out ok.

| That doesn't sound good at all. I know that the microchip needle is HUGE. (or it looks huge to me......) I would think a little scab would be normal for a few days, but not a large dirt packed hole. Brownie was done a few weeks ago, and I just kept the area clean, and didn't put any flea stuff on his back for a few weeks, it healed fine. I don't think it was even noticeable. How sad. I would talk to your vet about it.

| they are implanted subcutaneous, and some will migrate, not a big deal. it is odd though that the site didn't quickly cose up, it is a big gage needle, but not a big deal to put them in. I had my first litter done at the vets but this time I am probably going to do them at home with the help of an experienced friend.

| | Alpha | I dont think chipping is normally an issue if they are kept inside and not allowed to play in dirt
A google search comes up with this Intervet - 021_- Vaccines i dont see solo-jec as one of thier products at all and she was reading something as she did send the lot number off the box/another bottle but no expiration date in the last email. I am not sure what shot or who made it was actually given.
