Angry Hiking

So I go to take Hannibal hiking today and we get there and they tell me "sorry, dogs arent allowed on the hiking trails". And after arguing with them for quite some time, apparently dogs arent allowed on any Florida state park hiking trails. What a crock of shit! (sorry) Im really pissed. So I ask them where I should go to take my dog on a hiking trip and they tell me there are local "dog parks" around. I told her, No Shit. Uggggg Im so pissed today. Are things like this in other states?

I know national parks are weird. Dogs can only go on paved trails. We found this out when we drove from Seattle to Phoenix with Vader. AZ is kinda lax I think. We have "preserves" that we can hike at. They even have poop bags at the start of the trail in case you forgot yours. Not sure about state parks, I'd have to check.

We take our dogs in state parks and National forests weekly. I have never heard of this, some beaches are iffy, but even they will have dog beaches available. I can't imagine not being able to take ours hiking, camping, and all of that. Just doesn't make any sense. Everytime we go camping everyone has their dogs with them!

Yah, they said they are allowed in the camping area of the main park while on a leash but not in the primative camping area or on the trails. I just cant make any sense of it? The only answers that they could give me were that since the trails are unsuppervised they are afraid people will let the dogs off their leashes and the dogs will hurt the wild life. If you cant go hiking with your dog at a park, then where can you go, yah know.

The parks here in TX I think let dogs in as long as they are on leashes. The park with the lake I took karma too wants them on leashes too.... and yes, I do consider that whistle lanyard a leash..darnit it has a clippy on the end! I think the big deal here is dog "running at large" I was mad that they charge to go on state parks!!

Yah actually I will next time. The only problem is that you have to get a code for the lock on the gate to get into the trail section and they ask you if you have any animals with you. I'm just going to drop Hannibal off with my friend at the road then go pay and get the code then pick them back up and go. Totally ridiculous that I have to do that though.

A lot of times there are unmarked entrances in to parks that are actually more convenient to go in and leave from. Maybe you will stumble upon one.

Wow! You have to pay---I didn`t know that. Is that true in other states or? We don`t pay here--Mo.
