| Sasha on The Move OK, Sunday is moving day for Sasha to go to DLS for some care and rehab. Please keep her in mind if you are looking to adopt soon.
Yes, she comes with a couple of suitcases but there's less stuff she's carrying now. She's taught me so much in the past 9 days and they are lessons I will always remember. None of her behaviours are her fault and even through her fear and apprehension she has been able to give that special kind of Dobe love that we all know so well. Her beautiful little face, her desperate need for touch, her ability to learn and her amazing personality are all in my heart. I will miss her snuggles and velcro-leaning.
Don't forget about her, she needs someone special and we know you're out there somewhere just waiting to find her.
PS. She is NOT going to enjoy this trip. Anyone ever use the Acevet 25 we've been given to calm her? She hates, hates, hates being in the van and we have a 6 or so hour trip ahead of us. Yikes!

| Thanks again for all the info. everybody. I will be asking for a LOT more help and advice once I evaluate Sasha. I have never dealt with an animal that was visually impaired. What makes Sasha's plight even more difficult is that she has had to find her own way to deal with all the things that have 'blind sided' her with no assistance or understanding from either human or other dogs. Earning her trust and getting her to relax and accept help will be difficult. But we are all going to try our best to give this girl a chance to be all that she can be. |

She would need very patient owners who were aware of, and willing to accept, and adapt to her situation.
I do think it will be hard to find the right home, but I dont think it is impossible. | I don't think it's impossible, either. But could be a long road. I volunteer with Illinois Doberman Rescue. We placed a blind pup earlier this year. I just saw him last weekend at our annual reunion, and he is thriving. He goes to obedience class and is now very outgoing. It took some time to find his people, but it was so worth the wait.
We have another blind boy now. For play time, he goes out in the fenced in acreage and plays with another dog (who can see). The foster mom put bells on the sighted dog's collar to see if it would help the blind boy learn where to go, and it has worked wonderfully. The blind boy follows behind him and has learned the ropes quickly. He's come out of his shell and is doing well.
My best wishes in helping this girl find a family that can understand, accept, and work with her needs.

Thank you for the update. Please keep us posted. Have been praying for Sasha, Dobekiss, and yourself. I actually could not sleep well last night thinking of the long journey ahead for Sasha, Dobekiss, and you. Thank God she has arrived safely, hope the trip was not too tramatic, I know I found some info on acevet for Dobekiss, hope it helped. Let us know how you are doing. I had been contacted about 3 weeks ago by a couple in South Dakota that had lost their beloved Dobe, Tessa-one 1/2 years ago, she was 11 years old~and she was deaf AND blind. They are now looking to adopt a rescue. I told them about Sasha. They are in their late fifties, retired, financially secure. They have since called me three times wanting to know how Sasha is. FYI.

| Well, we just returned from delivering Sasha to Pwell River. A long day for the little girl, long drive. Left home at 9:30 this morning and it's now 9:50 in the evening. Emotionally and physically drained. Sasha handled the trip amazingly well, the AceVet is mighty strong. Thank you bluizk for the info on the AceVet. She was totally zonked after a bit of a rough start. DLS has taken charge of this next phase and if anyone is capable of turning her around, she's the one. I miss her snout and her love. She's such a cuddler.Don't forget about her, she'll be needing someone to give her that forever home she so deserves ;-)

| Well it looks like Sasha is suffering from brain damage. Not sure exactly what the cause is because we do not have much of a history on her. I do have my suspicions, but, only a spinal tap will tell us for sure, and I do not think we will put her through that. So I will continue to treat her as one of my own and do the best to try and make her as comfortable and happy as I can. Time will tell if she has any chance at all to live a fairly normal life. We will give her that chance. As soon as I download pictures off my camera I will post some of Sasha here. Despite her condition she does have periods of total joy, playfullness and can wag her stubby just like any other Dobie. She is a cutie. |
