| Police uniform interesting A friend and I were talking about dogs and uniforms after the post the other day. Her boyfriend is a police detective so he doesnt were his, he is plain clothed. She had him put on the uniform and go up to his dobe who is a about 14 mouths old. His dog went nuts she says barking and lunging at him, he had to leave the room. He has had the dog since it was a pup and its a very well behaved one. In fact they are the reason i really started to look at dobermans. He is gonna come over and train with mine and his. I just thought i might let you all know that. I found it very interseting .

| I've read in several books that any puppy of any breed/mix should be introduced to individuals in uniform as part of basic socialization |

| Clothing can really affect a dog. Some friends of mine have a collie called Bryn who I know very well. Normally when I see Bryn he does the whole ecstatic hello thing, but if it's raining and I'm wearing my drizabone with the hood up he seems to think I'm a Ringwraith or something and he barks at me until I push back the hood. Also he pee'd on my drizabone once! He really doesn't like that coat.

| Ive had two dogs that responded very passionately to uniforms...Sebastian is one of them. They see the difference I guess but it may also have to do with imperceptible interactions, auras and body language too.
People in uniform tend to take on the persona in many ways and naturally stand apart from the rest on other levels, outside of the uniform itself.
Just an idea...not really sure about it of course. |

| I have just had a motorbike and the other day I came downstairs with the helmet on and my lot went crazy at me and even after I had spoken to them Tia kept coming up to me sniffing and growling as if to say "You smell like Daddy but you don't look like him!!"

Just an idea...not really sure about it of course. | You know, that is very, very true. when my husband is in uniform, he has a different "personality" per se that he must take on. In fact, in our session w/ our trainer he told my husband to show Bo that he is leader in the same way he behaves as a police officer- and Bo listens to him much more than he did before. I also have to learn to communicate leadership, but it comes more naturally and easier to Todd. Officers in uniform have to present an aura of leadership or else they are in trouble! |
