Interview questions?

In case you don't remember (and I am sure many of you don't), I am a reporter for a weekly paper in my area. We do "happy stories" and profiles and such... nothing too deep and disturbing (we think people need uplifting news once in a while).

On Tuesday I will be interviewing Lucy Jakubowski of Braveheart-Loyalheart Dobermans for our "Lifestyles" piece (she lives about 20 minutes from me). I am very excited to get to go speak with her and meet her Dobes (I haven't been around one in a very long time).

So, I was wondering if anyone had some unique ideas for interview questions for a Doberman breeder for a profile piece? I won't be focusing on her Dobermans entirely - she is also into antique textiles - but I want this to be an interesting little story.

I'm hoping it goes well... if I'm impressed I may even go to her for my first Dobe (I'm still itching for my red male to name Lincoln!).

Anyway, any suggestions would be appreciated! I'm trying to write up questions but today my brain is a little fried. I might be more creative tomorrow!

Why are dogs (dobermans in particular) important in people's lives? What doberman characteristics does she like and breed for?

hmmm. maybe you could creatively hit on BSL somehow? lol. Just cant think of an interesting question to ask on it.

why she owns dobes maybe.

Well I`ll just throw a couple out for you.

What does she think about cropping & docking?
Would she like to see it banned in the US?
Does she have a favorite dog food?
What`s her favorite breed of dog, besides Dobermans.

sorry if they sound stupid, not sure what your looking for.

Ask her about ethical breeders and the difference between them and BYBs and why it's important to not support them!

Maybe.. how or why her breeding program contributes to the future of the breed and what does (or has she done) in order improve her lines, if she does at all.

Also, you could ask her what sold her on the breed and what her first experience was like with her first Dobe.

Or..how does she feel about the public perception of the breed and has it changed at all since she first started breeding. Has her community embraced her passion or has it been somewhat troublesome breeding a dog with a negative stereotype?

And how has owning and breeding Dobes changed or impacted her life. If she didn't breed/own Dobes what would her runner-up be?

Lastly, how does she manage to keep a well-balanced life between her dogs and her own personal/family life? Does she feel like Dobes are an ideal family dog and does she have any advice/tips for future/prospective Doberman owners?

Thanks guys! You've all given me some awesome suggestions! I am sure I would have hit on a few of those topics but I have a feeling this will be an easy interview to get sidetracked and lost in! (Can you tell I'm excited?)
