Help - wire cage in the car ?

Hello, I need an answer if anybody can help me.

I'm going to my parents and want to take my Dobe along with my 2 kids. This is a 6 hour drive.

I have a 2006 Nissan Sentra. My 10 year old son will be sitting in the back seat with Zack (6,5 months, about 50-60 pounds).

Do you think I can fit a wire cage in the back seat, on the floor, and still have room for Zack and my son on the seat ? I haven't bought the cage yet, but I'm looking for something around 20 x 36 (long) x 30 (high).

I will measure my car tonight but thought there are so many people in this forum, maybe someone will have an answer for me.

Thanks a lot !

I really doubt it. I had a Toyota Camry and was not able to do this. You might consider using a harness and letting him sit on the seat. That's what we did when we had the Camry.

i would do a harness too... i would worry if something happened and your kid got hurt by the crate!! rather bump into a dog than a metal crate with a dog in it in case of an accident

I'm sorry, I wasn't very clear. I'm taking the crate to use at my parents, not in the car.

The wire crate would be folded, sitting on the bottom of the car, leaving the seat for Zack and my son to sit.

That makes more sense now. Would the wire crate fit you think ?

oh. well in that case, why dont you just measure your trunk? I think I would get the biggest that would fit that way your dog can grow into it and you wont have to buy another one.

I used to do my dog shows in a Monte Carlo. AWESOME TRUNK. Now that Karma is big, I have a Honda Element for shows. Perfect dog truck.

Well, I did measure my trunk and 36 inches would fit, not more.

I went to see a cage today and it was 36 long and it seemed too small for Zack. I don't know how long he is but it just didn't look right.

So I would have to get a 42 inch cage and fit it in the back of the car, sitting on the bottom. I guess I'll have to see another one...

You could always get a "soft" crate to take with you instead. If it's just for a few days it should be fine

I don't think I've seen any of those, I'll look for them. But this crate will be used for a while so I need it to last.

Good idea, although I'll have to pay full price twice, because I also need one for home.

Thanks for your suggestions !

Thats how my wife does it- its worth the price to not have to load the crate when she goes...
