I decided to park my car in the driveway and walk up to the front door with my iPhone camera running. I just wanted to see what would happen if I peeked in the window.
Haha I know you can see snoop in the beginning facing the other direction. Poor oblivious deaf dog.
Because its leaded glass you can't really see who's at the door, only a figure. Once I opened the door he barreled his way through then realized it was me and started hopping and circling and giving me the Dober-U.
So far I've only had people over who play with Hades so I'm highly doubtful that he'd actually defend against a burglar, he'd probably grab a toy. I'm hoping he at least looks scary enough barking at the door that no one would be dumb enough to try him.
So does Hades. I actually hold him back as people are coming in and the new visitors all look scared and say "is he friendly?" Then I let him go and he's all play bows and wiggle butts. Within 5 min he's making himself comfortable on their laps. Maybe he can hold the burglars down until I can call the cops?!
haha reminds me of the day we had the front door open, my husband and daughter were in the living room and so were the dogs, hubby told my daughter to make sure the storm door was locked as he saw some ppl going door to door. I know they saw her, I know they knew we were home .. however as soon as the dogs caught sight of them they started their tirade ... and the guy kept right on walking past my house .. whatever he was selling was not worth it to him to brave approaching my door! lol
A few months ago my husband left for work at 5 am He forgot something turned around and two hours later came back into the bedroom. I never woke up and neither did the dachshunds under the covers but Jade is deaf. That started our journey to get Ruger. Hubby looked into security system vs doberman and decided on Ruger. I don't ever want to know what would happen if someone comes in but he has done the full bark like that when someone walks up to the door and man when they bark it vibrates the house so I would hope my lazy but will wake up!
Don't underestimate him, Dobe reactions are very context-driven, so of course he'll likely be lovable towards strangers who you invite in or speak in a friendly tone with.
I'd bet he'd be a completely different dog towards someone who wasn't invited, and if you even pretend to argue with someone, he'd probably chime-in. Without training, he just wouldn't have the confidence to be very effective or behave appropriately if an intruder refused to back-down in the face of being menaced by the Dobe teeth through the door (can see those pretty clearly despite the distortion from the glass!) and entered your home anyway.
I've actually asked a few friends, that Hades hasn't met yet, to sneak into the back yard and put their hand through the dog door. So far.... Zero takers
