Harness suggestions?

What harnesses do you all like?

Richter needs a harness for Nosework class. It shouldn't be a no-pull harness. The reason for it is to not set us back in loose leash walking - he needs to know that when he's wearing the harness it's okay to pull me toward the search area :)

Ideally, it should be easy on/off, not rub under his legs, be not terribly expensive, and be something I can get for him now that will have enough room as his chest fills out.

Suggestions? I have this one from Clean Run (Clean Run: Walkeez Fleece-lined Harness) but the fleece on the straps that run under the legs seems to shift and rotate, and I don't love it. I'd really like something that's minimal, so I don't have to take it on/off when he's in his crate between searches, and isn't hot. So something minimal, but strong.

Give me your ideas!

I like that one, but my needs aren't the same as yours. So no help here. I just want something the is comfortable for Lexi (she doesn't do nose work, she doesn't do any work).
She really doesn't need a pinch or choke collar and if she does pull it is minimal. I don't want the usual web material. It always seems to rub something. Thanks for the link.

i have tried a bunch of different things for logan and i am super pleased with the Dean and Tyler harness i got him.

it has 3 options for hooking. 2 side hooks and a back hook with a handle as well for control which has come in handy a few times with Logan since he is incredibly powerful and since we have been approached by off leash dogs its nice to be able to grab him so i know he isnt going anywhere.
I paid 48 bucks for his and its by far the best cash i have spent on a dog product. It is very easy to put on, goes over his head with one clip heavy duty click clip. no fussing with getting it between his legs or getting him to sit still when putting it on. i have had other harnesses and they were a PITA to put on...so many clips and easy to mess up putting on....this one is simple as simple can be. its completely adjustable too.
here is a pic with logan in his harness checking out the potbelly pigs this weekend at Martha Claras Bark for Life.

Here's the one I have for Ilka. Nylon and Leather Dog Harness It has more adjustment points than I ever know a harness could have, and is easy to get off and on. Here's another I am considering for Leo. J and J Dog Supplies: Nylon Tracking Harnesses It doesn't have the padded chest plate that Ilka's has, but it looks to be a nice harness. Both of them come in an all leather version, also.

We use the Julius K-9 IDC Powerharness. Absolutely love it. Single under chest fastening so it slips on and is done up in seconds. Has the grab handle on the back, does only have one ring on it but its central and if I am totally honest Odin has no issues pulling me forwards when he is wearing it. Plus is comes in a variety of colours! :D We use the size 2 for Odin and the under strap adjusts as well to accommodate for growth. Doesn't rub him either and he runs around in it like a lunatic and wears it on every walk.

I second what Zeblar suggested. I have a Julius K9 harness for D (same one they have) and I'm in love with it.

I use it when I track with him and it doesn't bother him at all and it's super easy to put on and take off. It's extremely well made and not too heavy plus you can get fun patches to put on it ;) He loves wearing his harness and he's associated it with doing something fun.

Yeah, you definitely don't want to use a no pull harness since it will be about them leading.

On amazon, I've found some nice leather and lined K9 tracking harnesses that aren't too pricey. I like the ones already suggested a lot too, especially the Dean and Tyler harness. I love Dean and Tyler dog gear. You can find it on amazon too.

Here is Kira in her Hurrta harness. It's a discontinued leather & nylon version I got on clearance, but they still make some nice padded harnesses that are just made entirely out of nylon webbing. They're also pretty inexpensive, but well-made & Kira has no comfort issues with them.

They slip on over the head, then buckle around the heart-girth with a quick-release clip buckle. They have a ring on the handle to clip a lead to, it's kind of nice to have the flexibility to use it with both the handle and a lead. They have reflective strips for safety, and come in bright colors for increased safety & visibility too.

Look for carting style harnesses. Mabels just slips over her head and buckels below her chest bam done. Plus then you can attach a leash in the center or on both sides of him for different control styles.
We use ours for biking and I love it.
I'm on my phone and at work but ill post pics and links later

For both Spock & Eva I use the H17 harness from ForDogTrainers.com. It's inexpensive and made and shipped from Israel via USPS Priority Mail (1-week) I like the extra center line chest/belly strap to distribute pulling forces more widely than regular harnesses. The other good features are the SST connection D-rings on sides, top slider on handle AND front which works well to inhibit pulling. It goes on/off very quickly with just two quick-lock buckles, one in front, one on belly.

Eva, who is my "tracker" can still sniff the ground to her heart's content in this harness. Spock, however, just wants to see the world! :)

Here is link to product on website (notice the models- :p):

I personally like leather, I find it moulds better to the body, and doesn't rub hair off. I have a leather and nylon harness, both been used for hours on end, the leather one fit best and is more comfortable for Chase (he didn't whip around to gnaw at his sides, or had urges to roll).

Here is the harness I use, and pretty cheap.
Extremely Comfortable Tracking / Pulling / Walking Leather Dog Harness with Padded Chest Strap [H5###1073 Leather Pulling / Tracking Dog Harness with Padding] - $45.00 : Dog harness , Dog collar , Dog leash , Dog muzzle - Dog training equipment from

Also, it does adjust at the girth and shoulders so it leaves a good 3-4 inches of growth all around.

I can't see any dobe needing a large, I tried that on and it just fell off of Chase, it's more for the mastiff type dogs. Medium is a great fit IMO.

I am about to order a Juluis K9 harness to compare but I use the ComfortFlex Sport Harness for Pula and have since the beginning of Nosework. She knows that we are either off to play on a long line or doing nosework with it. I like that it is easy on and off, doesn't come off, and is lightweight.

I use it for my other dogs also.

I've been looking at the ComfortFlex, too. It seems really lightweight and flexible...is it strong? Does it fit the Dobe shape well?

ComfortFlex is very lightweight, flexible and durable, and no issue with strength here. I am not a huge fan of the shape on Elsie (but she is an awkward size for harnesses), but it doesn't rub or anything and it is pretty cheap (and on free shipping on CleanRun).

Have you seen the harnesses that Jess and Judith have on the doberman-chat forum? Would something like that work? I like it because it has the handle on the back and looks quite comfortable. I am not sure if it would be right for the work you want it for though.

Those of you with the Julius K9 harnesses...do you have a size 2? That seems like it would be the right size for even most adult males, right? I tend to go by chest measurement rather than weight guidelines.

I went with the Julius K9 that everyone recommended, and I love it!

Here's Richter in it...
