Life is so much better with two! Except for one minor problem

Griffe has a new sister!! We rescued a Fawn Doberman two weeks ago and she is our little princess =)

Fiona is amazing and knows how to be in a crate, which Griffe has had major issues with and his separation anxiety is SO much better now that we have her!

There's only one problem, and wanted to know what your opinion is and if this has happened to anyone else?

Griffe is now marking Fiona's crate when they are home alone and she is IN the crate!!! We have a camera and I saw him do it, plus the evidence when we get home.

He has not marked or gone in the house since he was a puppy, and it only happens when they are home alone and she is in the crate and he is in the house.

He is not neutered and just turned 2, Fiona is spayed and believe she is around 2 1/2. She did have a few accidents in the house, so not sure if that started it all? It's not in those spots though.

I know the answer will be to start crating him and hopefully this doesn't set the separation anxiety off again, but why is he trying to pee on his sister?!

They even went to day care together one day and were in xpens next to each other, and he tried to mark her through the wires lol.

Also, how long does it take, if ever, for them to just sleep together? They cannot resist the urge to continue mouthing and playing and go at it non stop until we separate them, and I know it's only been two weeks, but just curious if they ever chill out =)

Thanks as always for the input and I have a ton of photos, just have to take the time to upload!

Congrats on the new family addition!

If I were you, I would completely separate them while your out, don't let griffe go near the crate. They may seem fine now, but the new girl may get fed up and end up developing kennel aggression.

Do you have the crate in a bed room or living room? Try a baby gate, and keep them room separate.

Can't believe you posted without pics of the new girl!

I would also put her crate somewhere where he can't access it, either behind a gate or in a closed room. I would also recommend getting a trainer's advice. It does seem odd that he's trying to mark while she's contained. I'd want a good trainer's insight on that!

What are you talking about when you say that's his new SISTER? Did you have a conversation with him to tell him this or via email? Dogs don't distinguish between brother and sister. They distinguish between three things, threat, non-threat and breeding. You brought a female into his den. He wants to breed with it and is marking his territory.

I don't mean to sound like a jerk but you need to learn about the basics of what pack mentality is. Everything he is doing is genetically encoded in his DNA.

I'm deal with a similar situation. However I haven't decided to deal with it directly, YET, because that would mean taking it to a dark place. I have an extremely hard obtuse male and it would come to a fight and change our relationship. I'm doing it gradually. Which is the polar opposite of what you'd want to do. Deal with it ONCE and it's done. My problem is that I'm a dobie owner and we tend to be extremely kind to our kids to a fault and it's almost a disservice to them. We love them so much, that we make bad decisions.

Good luck.

Thank you for the input!

Yes it is Fiona from DRNV!

Meadowcat- Can I email you photos for you to post?! I am half kidding lol.

If not then I will attempt to get some photos up!

I did separate him from her crate and he just marked other places, so definitely not good.

We got a belly band to try and if that doesn't work then crate it is!

I upload my photos to Picasa (free) and then I can easily embed them in my posts. A lot of people use Photobucket, too.
