What to do with all the stuffing...

So, I've been just picking up all the stuffing from de-stuffed toys as Kira spreads it around, and I just put it in a big nylon duffel bag rather than the trash. A dragon-infested dog bed contributed about half of the total stuffing in the bag, too.

The bag is now nearly full, and I'm trying to decide what to do with it, so all that practically new polyester stuffing doesn't go to waste. I never put much thought into what I was actually going to do with it. I'm not sure whether I should try to re-stuff some of the toys so Kira can have fun ripping them apart again, or maybe just put all the stuffing in the slightly newer large dog bed that wasn't too much of a lost cause so I repaired it-- it would just wind-up being a bit too spherical for Kira to actually be able to lay on. The lazy option would be to just wait until a few more toys' worth of stuffing go into the duffel bag and just give her the bag as a giant toy to destuff, but I don't know that I want to deal with that big of a stuffing mess.

Does everyone else just toss it, or have you given the stuffing a second chance to do what it was made for?

I also have bags of stuffing in a cupboard which I am sure can come to use...just haven't figured out what yet. I like your idea of sticking it in an old duffel and that becomes the toy!

With de-stuffed toys I usually make a rattle with a small plastic container and dry beans, stuff it where the stuffing was and sew it back up.

What about stuffing old pillow cases? I wonder if that will reduce Griff's penchant for the extra pillow I toss off the bed at night, and the occasional raid in the spare room, and the outdoor furniture scatter cushions....

I've thought about putting it out this time of year for birds to make nests out of. I'm not sure if it's a good idea though and I haven't had time to research it at all. So for the moment, it just all goes in the garbage.

I save it. All the money I spend on stuffies, I can't just throw it out. Plus, I'm crafty. I like to have a craft or project I'm doing.

Here's what I do with the stuffing:

I take old tee shirts that I know I won't wear anymore, and I make ******* either a stuffed animal, or a giant J filled with stuffing. For example; from when I was at IU, I had a shirt that said "Dry Campus" on the front, and "My A$$" (only they were S,' not money symbols) on the back. Hmm ... something told me I probably won't be wearing it anytime soon. I don't have a sewing machine. I just do a hand sew. *******'s just going to rip it up, so I figure it doesn't have to be perfect.

Here's the first thing I made her (which she went nuts with for a decent amount of time one night):

Sorry if some are a little blurry. I took them from my phone.

I still buy her new stuffed animals too though. She's a spoiled gal.

Erm, not much use to most of you, but I save it and use it as a filter for my duck pond.

See ducks are dirty little beggars, pooping in their ponds with no regard for the health risk it poses or how icky it looks.
So I have filters on their pond. It is basically 3 buckets through which the water passes the first is filled with small rocks, the second is filled with plastic pan scourers and the third is filled with the stuffing from deceased stuffies. Now of course what I should do is buy specialised filtration materials. But screw that, I would have to raid a bank to be able to afford to do that every couple of weeks. Anyhow, most of the cruddy stuff is caught up in the first two buckets, the contents of which can be washed off with a power hose. The third bucket is the throw away stuff and cleans the water till it looks as if it had just exited a spring or something. Crystal clear, after which it is pumped back into my duck pond.
Now some of you might be thinking, surely this is way more expensive than buying the filter material. Erm, well no actually it isn't see stuffies from the local chinese bazaar cost between 5 and 10 euros each, we probably go through one maybe 2 of these a month per dog and I have 3 of the little darlings, :lol2:. Whereas the bag of filter material costs 50 euros for around 6 to 8 changes. Okay, one small teddy, dog or tiger isn't quite a complete change of filter material, but a medium to large is close. And seeng as I buy the stuffies as it is, I thought, hmmm, maybe I could use this instead of buying both. (I have a stock pile since my ducks went in the freezer at the beginning of the winter).

I am also considering using it for filtering my grey water, but I haven't worked out how much it will need for this to be viable.

There is only so much my weak stomach can take of this dragon slaying. Yea gods it is horrendous to watch, but boy are the innards useful.
