Does anyone do SAR tracking with their Dobe?

I'm just curious. We've been working with a group for our boy. Right now, he's basically playing hide & seek with his favorite toys. I know we're looking at an 18 mo - 2 year minimal training regiment, but I was wondering how other Dobermans do with the program?

We have mostly German shepherds, Belgian Malinois (and I probably butchered that name...sorry!), a bloodhound, a couple of labs, etc... Not unexpected breeds. Our boy is the only dobie. :) Like I said, right now, it's all fun for him. We're just playing games, socializing him, and trying to get his basic obedience down to a tee. We have a LONG way to go, and even if he doesn't end up making the cut, I think it'll be a good experience for us all.

There is a member who does SAR work with their Dobe. For some reason, their name escapes me at the moment, but the dog is named Ivan. Maybe someone else will remember their name, or I will in the morning......

Dobe Sar

I started my dog, Regan, at 16 weeks doing scentwork. Dobes excel at it.
I have a small SAR team here in S.E. Pennsylvania. Regan does live finds, but I did do some cadaver work with him as well. They are so intelligent that scent-training is fairly easy, if done consistently. As with any training, it has to be reinforced for them to stay fresh.
But absolutely- Dobes are an excellent breed for tracking.
