I thought we needed a thread like the random photo page to share stories that may not need a whole thread of their own! Of course, I have one to start! :D

When we take walks there are times when I let Brandy sniff at things and times when we may be in more of a hurry and we just can't stand around all day sniffing a mailbox post. So to get around this, she's figured out that if she stops to pee, she can sniff at the same time! There are times when she's just squatting and sniffing, but nothing's coming out! Little biatch is too smart for her own good! :roflmao:

Please share your funny anecdotes!

My boy has worked out that when he goes out to pee (we take him out off-leash) if he does a quick stream and stops and walks back to me he'll get a treat. Then he'll go off to pee again for real (as in he finishes what he was holding) so he'll get another treat. Haha. He's also started giving me the "What'd I do" puppy-doe eyes when I catch him with my socks. Such a smart brat. :D

Keeping with the same topic right now...

In the mornings, I let Jones and Jynx out to do there thing, well Jones knows as soon as he comes in the door, breakfast will be waiting for him... Well I have to watch the goober because sometimes he will not poop... He will pee on the fence and just stand at the door waiting for me... Until I tell him to go potty and have to babysit him and watch him do his thing....

Other news...

Jynx doesn't want to kill Jones if he looks at her anymore :) At least not all the time...

What a great idea! I can't tell you how many times something cute or funny happened and I wanted to share it, but didn't want to start a whole thread for a little moment.

******* should win an Academy Award for Best Actress. If she doesn't want to do something, she immediately goes into character. She acts like she is so sad, or scared, or that her feelings are hurt, to try and get her way.

Case in point - we went to the vet a couple weeks back to get another 6 months of heartworm prevention, and he did her nails since we were there. When her vet starts to do the typical checkup stuff, she began panting, shaking, hunching over, and acting terrified. My dog growing up was dreadfully afraid of thunderstorms, and her reaction was almost similar (so you guys can get an idea). I of course feel horrible and feed right into her dirty little web. I begin to comfort her. She even had the vet fooled. She was panting so much and shaking so much that he decided to check her heart rate using a stethoscope. Well ... her heart-rate couldn't have been more normal. Once he told me, we both looked at her laughing. I told her to cut it out, I'm not buying it anymore. I kid you not, SHE STOPPED! She then just stood there with her little pouty teenager face, and she let out a huff now and then so we all knew she was still there and still not having fun!

If you look at the pics I posted on my recent "I think I have a swimmer" thread, you can see her acting when I told her to get out of the nasty icky water. She starts dropping her head and acts like her feelings are sooooo hurt, but then as soon as she sees a distraction (like a Goose back on dry land), she's immediately fine.

EDIT - I'll make it easier. Here's the sequence of pics where I told her to get out of the nasty water, and she then went into character:

Banana Refrigerator Magnet

When Spock was just a young lad about 1 y/o I offered him a taste of a banana I was eating. Always up for a new eating experience, Spock took a bite, chewed for a bit then spat it out onto the floor (which he will still do today).

Later the same day, it was time for his walk so I got him all geared up and we walked through the kitchen. Over the years, my wife had saturated our refrigerator with a multitude of those decorative magnets- all shapes and sizes - covering both doors.

I paused to pick up my phone on the kitchen counter. To my surprise, Spock decided to lick one of the dozens of refer magnets with his big sloppy tongue. And yes... it was a bright yellow, 3D banana cartoon magnet! :) :) :) I thought- how cute and smart these Dobes are!

(Similar to the one pictured above)

P.S.- My wife, till this today, doesn't believe this incident ever happened...)

What a great idea, I love this thread!

Soter's newest thing - he is a total Dober-goat. If it comes in contact with his nose, it goes in the mouth :rolleyesww:

So to stop this behavior, I tell him "No! Leave it!". If he drops it, he gets a cookie. So now my little genius will pick something, anything up, stop, look right at me then open his mouth, let it fall out again then come for a cookie!
I've created a monster!

It's been awhile since I've been on here, I missed all the beautiful, goofy Dobe pics! My Domino has turned into a wonder companion! I took him around the lake yesterday (never been there before) tons of people and kids around and he was the perfect "mascot" for Dobes. We walked through a group of kids on a picnic and someone goes, "what a great puppy!" We even had some guy yell out his car window, "Very nice Doberman!" I dont think people really expect to see a big ol' Doberman being walked around by a girl-I think it's intriguing. Ofcourse we get the "ohh woow hes so big!" comments as we walk by, I can tell people are probably a little intimidated. A funny story I have is one of Dominos bad habits-pooping while walking! Does anyone else's Dobe do this? Everytime we walk he wont stop or even tell me he has to poop-we just walk along and it falls outta his butt! Ofcourse he did it at the lake yesterday, everyone staring, but it just couldnt fall, it had to dangle from his damn butt! So embarressing. After the walk we went over to see one of his g/f's, a lab, and had a great playdate. Needless to say, I love my Dober more than anyone in my family-I dont know what I'd do w/o him! They really are the best dogs in the world.

Here's him giving me attitude!

Richter and I have had ongoing crate battles since we got him. He is completely fine being crated overnight, and when we are gone. But, if we're home and we crate him he feels it is a complete injustice, and he throws a fit. Similarly, he has been throwing mini-fits during our agility class and nosework class because both of them require some crate time. He's getting better, but he still doesn't LIKE being crated during class.

Last night during nosework class he was so tired out from the tough searches that he slept in his crate for half the class. Didn't make a peep. Victory for me!

Well my dumb (or maybe not so dumb) dog has learned how to use the bells on the door to get attention. When we potty trained him a year and a half ago we put the bells on the door for him to ring when he needs to go out. Well he has learned that ringing the bells will gaurantee him some attention. When i'm sitting on the couch he will nose at me...I give him no reaction...he will walk around the coffee table.....nose at the girlfriend on the other side of hte couch....she gives no attention....back to me for one final attempt....again no attention from me. Once he gets the 3 strikes with no attention it is straight to the bells because he has learned he will always get attention when he rings them.

#12 ·
we also use a potty bell. But now Logan has learned that we will let him out when he rings it so he waits until we sit down to eat dinner and starts feverishly ringing the door bells. I get up, open the door, and the little booger just looks outside as to check out whats going on. Looks at me and gives me the all clear..and plops down on his bed and relaxed for about 15 mins before he does it again.

#11 ·
Yep, the bells can backfire big time :D My dogs will both ring them when they are bored.

One of my earliest concerns with Kody was CLEARLY identifying the subtle signs for his needing a potty break. Should we treat him? Walk him 50 times? {OMG...DID I JUST HEAR HIM WHINE OR WAS THAT THE TV?} Our breeder suggested the bells trick, but with 2 athletic maniac Abyssinian cats in the house, we feared the false-alarm ringing would eventually cause 'accidents'....

As it turns out, he now walks over to me and kisses me on the face during otherwise non-affectionate-time, then jumps down to the floor and waits....It's a can't miss, and he's never had one false alarm because there's no treat in it for him.

Did I tell you guys about Aspens crazy food snatching escapades?

Well when we first got get...she was much smarter and much quicker at reacting than us! :D Slowly...the odds are being tipped in our favour...

My other half was letting her out to the toilet while I was inside eating my dinner on the sofa (mash potato, gravy and vegetarian sausages) when all of a sudden Aspen squeezed through the catflap and came RUNNING in at me full speed and launched into my dinner plate! :p She wolfed the entire contents in about 3 mouthfuls before I could sweep her back into the floor with one arm, but the damage was already done. Mash potato and gravy ALL OVER HER PAWS, which she proceeded to run into the carpet around and round in circles....:rolleyesww:

We were too busy falling about with laughter to tell her off...

I walk Griffin in the park in the mornings and 5 or so weeks ago a cat corpse lay next to the path. The corpse was never removed and for 3 weeks we walked past the ever deflating thing. Every now and then Griffin would go to sniff it, I would say 'leave' and we would go on. Well, a couple Saturdays ago Griffin woke at 4:30am and was just impossible. At daybreak we set off on a walk. At 7am he was still lively so I diverted the walk to the park so he could meet with his poodle friends. The walk was great, he played with the poodles, the poodle owner commiserated with me, next thing Griff comes tearing past with this stiffened, decaying corpse in his mouth, its feet and tail bent grotesquely and handfuls of fur flaking off. He stands in front of me 10meters away with this horror dangling from his face. I say 'drop it!' but he's delighted with the disgust in my attitude and starts flouncing around so the corpse flicks over his head and streaks wet cat juice down his back. I say more seriously 'Griffin! Come here!' ;but in all honesty I'm both disgusted and amused and don't actually want him anywhere near me so he was probably not convinced. Then he starting then chewing at the thing, I can hear 'crunch crunch' so I just lose it 'GRIFFIN! NO!' I figure to run away to at least get him moving and stop chewing, fortunately toward the kiddies playground where there must have been a party the day before and a brightly coloured tube of wrapping paper had been left behind. I grabbed the tube a waved it about delightedly, Griffin immediately dropped the corpse and came for the tube. Poodle lady grabbed the corpse and binned it while I ran across the playground waving the tube and being pursued by the stinkiest, most revolting doberman puppy in the universe..

Brinks is not allowed to spend all night on the bed with us because I am a light sleeper and between her and my husband, I get no sleep! So she's allowed up there until we want to go to sleep and then she has to go down to her bed on the floor. Around 5 AM, I get up and let Brinks and our greyhounds (who sleep in another room) out. When we come back in, Brinks is allowed up on the bed until we finally get up at 6:30. Well, the little brat has figured out that the sooner she can get me to let her out in the morning, the sooner she can get on the bed and she has progressively been moving it earlier and earlier. We went to bed at 10 last night....at 11:30, she was waking me up to go out! Needless to say, I ignored her. BUT THEN, about an hour later, I felt her jump up on the bed. She was smart about that, though, too! She jumped up on my husbands side and slept between him and the edge of bed where I couldn't get to her without waking my husband!! She's such a jerk! She keeps me up all night and then sleeps all day!

"Go away, I'm still sleeping!" Yes...that was 10:05 AM! She was supposed to go to daycare that morning at 8....needless to say, she didn't make it!

...Well, the little brat has figured out that the sooner she can get me to let her out in the morning, the sooner she can ...
First, I LOVE her cardigan!
Second, we have also become slaves to the master's routines. He's not allowed on the bed (sleeps crated in the kitchen) but this 4:30am demand to be let into the bedroom ended This Morning! (needless to say everyone was awake from 4:30!).

Here's mine....and I don't know what I was thinking.....a few months ago I started giving Major a duck treat (which he LOVES!!) after he came inside from his morning potty. Well...he has figured out that the more he goes outside the more duck treats he'll get, even though we don't give him those EVERY time he goes out....he thinks he deserves them. He goes outside and then 15 minutes later, especially in the morning, he bugs me to let him out again. I'm kicking myself for ever starting this!

At 7 years Brandy had her first tick stuck on her today. Ick! After some internet searches we dislodged the little bugger and put some antibiotic ointment on the spot where it was. We went without any Frontline last year, but it seems this year will not be the same. We applied that right after!

Elza sleeps in her dog bed which is just side of our bed. Still chilly at night so Elza uses the blanket. Two hours later she changes her position, stands up, turns around and her favorite blanket slips off from her. She loves cuddling with it. She softly barks to wake my husband yet DEMANDing "put me my blanket on"! If he didn't notice, she executes her use of force, paw punching:D
My husband is a slave for Dobe.

According to him (because I'm a deep sleeper), she wakes him up 4 times during winter. Poor man!

Malia doesn't really like to share 'her' couch. If Magnum decides to lounge and take up more than 'his fair share' Malia will:
First, come stare at me for a bit. Try to pet her, she will move away. Try to ignore, she will move closer (up to and including climbing up you) until you try to pet, the she moves away.
Second, she will sit with her back to the couch and look over her shoulder. This will go on for a minute or so.
Finally, once she has had enough of not getting her way, she will start to play bow (which for her is a slamming bouncing affair). This will INSTANTLY get Magnum up and flying off the couch. In his mind I can hear it *WOOO HOOOOOO She wants to PLAAAY!* at which point she will immediately launch onto the couch and take up as much room as possible.

I'm not sure how I missed this thread.

Sometimes I can't believe how clever this dog is.

We often fill Murphy's Kong with peanut butter and apples sitting at different angles so that they're difficult to get out. When Murphy started to toss it around so that the apples would be bumped out I "oooh'd" and "aaah'd" over how smart he was. I spend a lot of time at home with him while doing school from home. Often I find myself with toys on my lap so I just toss them across the room so he can retrieve and play with them. Also, we don't let the Kong on the couch, it's too peanut buttery. Every time he put it on the couch I'd chuck it off. Well after a while I noticed that I was tossing the Kong more than normal.

He tricked me into tossing his Kong across the room so it would bounce and get the apples out. D'OY! Now we only set it on the ground. He then picks it up and puts it back on the couch...Dobermans...

I've been teaching Elka "paws up", mostly for fun, but also because when I take her to the bank, they wish she'd say "hi" like that for the Milkbones they hand out (which she takes but tends to just drop and not eat). We've been doing it at the park, mostly, on benches and on Sunday she did it to a tree. Well, we went to the vet yesterday, and when I put my hand on the counter as they were asking "Are you here for an appointment or....", she first peeked to see it was all clear (I guess), then stood up and put her paws on the counter. Surprise, Doberman! :D They said "Oh, Elka, she's so cute!"

Then, as we continued to talk, she alternated between paws on the counter and paws on my arm (which she'd known for much longer).

I'm not sure how I missed this thread.

:lol2: Elka has a cue for this: "You can't have that on the couch." She'll look at me, pick the Kong back up, and I'll say "On the floor, or on your bed" and she'll revert to butt-in-the-air Kong licking.

*******'s best friend Bruno, a Corgi who lives across the street, I think are talking to each other from across the street. Sometimes I can hear Bruno barking outside, which of course gets ******* all riled up. The weird thing is, the pattern Bruno barks in, ******* will repeat. While one's barking, the other isn't. It's so odd. I've talked with my neighbor (Bruno's owner), and they said that if *******'s outside, that Bruno does the same thing from inside their house. Weird ... I wonder what they're saying lol? Or do I????

Anyways, small tidbit, but it happened again today so I thought I'd share.

Gideon's little things are he grabs my hand and (gently) pulls me to the door to go potty, if the whining like a baby doesn't work immediately. He also cries "Momma" when he wants something and I am ignoring him. His "brother," Jack, is an Australian Cattle Dog, and they play hide-and-seek around the couch. Gideon also SLOWLY finds his big self into my lap. One. Paw. At. A. Time. It starts with a well-behaved head in my lap and ends up with a full grown, larger than breed standard, Dobie laying in my lap with his face pressed against mine. Groaning. I have spoiled him, I admit. He's very entertaining!

Haha!- Sounds like a spoiled Dobe to me!
When he speaks "Momma", is it similar to the dogs that say "I love you"?
In any case, I think a video of Gideon doing these things is in order! :)
