Thought you would get a kick out of this. So I go through the Starbucks drive through to get a coffee my puppy is passed out on front seat from playing the guy asked me if dog can have a treat oh I said yes, so proceed to talk about the puppy being a doberman well you guys wouldn't believe what he said oh that's a puppy I thought it was a wienie dog! That's a puppy! Yes I said we'll if looked like this I pulled his ears up straight now does he look like a dobie? I had to laugh I read that on someone else's comments that if you don't get the dogs ears cropped they look like a weinie I guess they do. Just a lot taller. I'm not against ear cropping I think it looks nice I just didn't feel like doing it going through all work to get them nice. Plus I don't know of a good vet who does it out here. I love my boy floppy ears and all dosent matter. Thought i would share the comment. I get more comments what kind of dog is that? That's a doberman I never saw one with the ears like that. I get that all the time. 😄
I get a lot of people who look confused like they are trying to figure out what breed ******* is because her ears aren't cropped. I love the cropped look. If I would have adopted ******* at a young enough age, her ears would be cropped. I plan to add a male at some point in the future, and whether I rescue again or go through a reputable breeder, his ears will be cropped. I know what you mean, I like the cropped look too, and love those floppers as well!
lol sorry, ok anyways....yes I get comments asking if she is a greyhound or asking if I'm going to get her ears done (yeah, shes a year old, lol not so much). I find it a little amusing because ******* is black and rust with all of the clear markings that people associate with Dobermans.
I sometimes pull her ears up as if they were cropped too. Rarely, I will get the occasional "Beautiful Doberman, you don't see too many of those around here (sadly that's true). Are you going to get their ears done?" lol again, she's a year old, and clearly looks too big to be at the correct age.
So I'm a little biased, but I think ******* clearly looks like a Doberman, even when she's being a goof and playing with a banana peel
A few times, I was asked what breed my former Amy was...LOL...at the Vets waiting room.
- because she liked to relax her cropped ears back often...a few people said, "but they don't stand up"...I replyed, "yes they do, when she wants to
^^^^ ******* banana peel photo, is just toooooo chute, one of my favorites.
- so I will slip in one of Kelly eating a banana that the puppy stole out of a ladies garbage can, at an electrical supply shop
She's cute, my puppy is 15 weeks I do like the cropped look but as I see it they look so mean with them cut he already has the doberman status. I don't want people to be so scared of him. I just didn't want to go through all the work after the surgery plus finding someone who is good at doing it. I think it is worse when the vet screws them up. It dosent bother me cropped or not I don't mind if his would have been done when I got him that would have been ok. I love him the way he is.
Folks around these parts seem to see right past the ears. Some give Kira wide berth in PetSmart, some fawn over her, but none seem confused in the least.
A few weeks ago, snow zoomies turned into bolting up the dead-end road a ways, where other folks and their GSD were also playing in the snow. I haven't walked Kira up that way for introductions, poor folks sounded freaked-out & shrieked "God! A Doberman!". Their GSD had bolted down the road at the same time when they sensed each other, both "scary", naughty dogs met halfway for a brief introduction & played for a few seconds before recalling.
Lessons learned that day: People with equally ill-behaved GSD to my Dobe apparently have a blind spot when it comes to their dog being potentially terrifying.
Said people also can recognize a natural-ear Doberman sprinting up the road from 1/8 mile away and panic accordingly.
Kira's recall-under-pressure still needs work.
On a related note, and I may be just a tad biased here, ******* is adorable with her banana peel.
I have 2 cropped girls one with a flopped ear, and everyone is always asking me what breed Bella is (the red girl with the flopped ear) Some people are surprised she is dobe, while others are all about how they are happy I didnt crop her and Im like .. uh I did?
It's not the ears folk have a problem with when it comes to identifying Toby as a Dobe, but his colour. He is a red and apparently or so I have been told Dobes only come in black.
Best not tell those folk who alongside me have Reds, or those who have Fawns, Albino's, Blues this had we, they might start questioning if they were sold a Weim or Non-spotty Dalmation or such like, instead of a Dobe.
Some people are too funny. I personally had more comments on whether my dog was a min pin or a miniature doberman. Most of the time I didn't bother to correct them and tell them that there is no such breed as a miniature doberman. I would however and laugh and ask them how many 35 to 45lb min pins have they ever seen. Most of them laughed, the others just looked at me like huh?
My funniest one was at PetSmart the other day when a child about 9, who was walking a Yorkie, said "Whoa, that's a big dog! Is it a Great Dane?" I didn't laugh at him, he's only a kid, I just told him no sweety, she is a doberman. To me this was hilarious due to the fact that Jazzy is only 57lbs and not very tall. Her body length is also compact, so I don't really see her as big compared to other dobermans I see on here. I guess her cropped ears and her intense erect stature when she is meeting someone makes her look bigger than she is. lol
The dumbest comment I ever got was when I was traveling home from picking her up from the breeder and my Mom and I had stopped for a potty break and food. Two guys in their 20's asked me if she was a doberman and I said yes. Then one of the not so bright young men asked me why she was so small. I looked at him like you really didn't just ask that question. I then told him really slowly that it was because she is a puppy. He then just kinda said oh and left it at that.
I love the comments from people when they meet Jazzy. It gives me a laugh most times. I will say that so far, most everyone recognizes that she is a Doberman and they just ask if "he" is friendly. I always say yes "she" is. Then she always get lots of rubs and pats that she loves.
I've had one person call my natural ear girl a weinie dog (when she was a puppy)... The male vet tech. Based on his tone, I knew damn well he knew it was a Doberman. He must be a staunch proponent of the "Doberman's are a cropped and docked breed" and he was taking a stab at me for not cropping.
Other than that, never been mistaken, only the crooked head "That's a Doberman, right?"
I am so glad we aren't re only ones that get those comments!! I'm going to use the line " how many 50lb min pins do you know?" My Mabel isn't very big and we get mixed reactions too. It's amazing how many people are clueless about dogs in general.
Bruce is cropped, and docked. I have had all kinds of questions regarding him, including "what kind of dog is he?" and my very favorite comment "I'm so glad you didn't have his ears done". My reply "he is cropped..." the woman argued with me, finally saying if they were cropped he would be taped up. I had to then explain posting to her....cropped and docked or natural, there will always be idiotic questions when it comes to dogs lol.
LOL most people can realize Zildjian is a Dob, but I've gotten the odd RottiXGreyhound, or malnourished Rotti............then there was the vet student that couldn't even guess any breed whatsoever.....
I get greyhound or Great Dane constantly. Hades is tall (29 inches at shoulder) but no where near as big as a Great Dane! And greyhound?! I don't even understand that one. I get that he's albino so people rarely guess Doberman first but it's funny to hear what they come up with. I also get "oh I'm glad you didn't have his ears cut!" Well I didn't but his former owners did
Before I was really into dobes, we had someone bring in a natural-eared white dobe and I could've sworn it was a white Weimaraner... Someone then clarified that white dobes did exist, and I could see that he was most definitely a dobie.
Oh yea I got is that a mini pin or a doberman? It is funny the feet are a dead giveaway they are huge. It's funny, after the one person asked if he was a weinie I grabbed puppy's ears pulled them up straight to make them looked cropped than I said does he look like a dobie now?
With my fawn dobe people are always calling him a Wiem. I don't mind that, I just tell them he is a pure bred Doberman.... What drives me CRAZY is when they refuse to believe me and try to convince me he isnt pure, because Dobermans are only black and have ears that stand up naturally... Sigh....hno:
I get that ALL the time. "Ohh he's definitely a mix. Maybe Great Dane and dobe but definitely not pure dobe" I'm like "look he came from bad breeding but they surely put two albino dobes to produce him. Why would they risk adding Great Dane and not getting a rare white Doberman?!" :rolleyesww:
Skoll was cropped, docked, admittedly oversized, but definitely all dobe. Aside from some really out there breed guesses... seriously??? pit bull??? how many pits out there are 29in 95#??? Holy guacamole that'd be a gigantic pit. I had someone get snotty with me for "cropping my greyhound" and many people tried to convince me he was part dane. Also rottie or GSD. I wonder if these people actually know what these breeds look like...
I think a lot of people don't have a clue when it comes to what various breeds look like.
I once left my husband standing with an 8 month old red Dobe puppy outside a market. I came out just in time to overhear him saying to a little old lady (probably in her 70's "Oh, we got him at the pound so we don't know what kind of dog he is..."
I asked him what that line of bs was all about since the dog was already showing in conformation and had a very long show crop. Turns out the little old lady had just told him what a nice dog he had and how afraid she was of those big dogs like German Shepherds and Dobermans. He claimed he didn't want her to have a heart attack on the spot when he told her the dog was a Doberman. LOL! She also told him she thought his color was "interesting".
I've been informed that my Leo can't possibly be a German Shepherd. Her hair is too long. She has what is called a long stock coat, "ear floofies", and her tail is very ... bushy.
When Riley was little, before he was cropped, someone apparently thought he was some sort of LAB... wut? WUT?
