I have to rant ....

I don't know if any of you follow Doberman Lovers on facebook, but I was. Keyword. Was.

They posted a picture the other day of an albino female with her puppies and said how cute it this? Or something to that extent.

I made a comment on the fact that she is breeding an albino doberman which the girl who owned the female didn't like.

She went on to say that anyone who loves dobermans would love an albino just the same and that she breeds for health and temperament and her dogs are perfectly healthy. She also said I was spreading my hate by telling her breeding an albino was wrong.

The actual page itself said that they agreed with her opinion.

I said I would be removing myself from the page as I cannot support a page who support someone of this nature. If they truly loved the breed then they would not be breeding an albino.

Am I wrong here?

It's difficult to argue with the uneducated. A quick stop at the DPCA website, click on albinos, and boom there's your answer. I would have probably posted the link then bowed out.

You are correct, but I wouldn't spend too much time worrying over it. :)

Funny that you say that b/c that's exactly what I did. I made one final comment about her "contribution" to the breed and then told the page administrator I refused to continue to support their page as they chose to support this person.

Lastly, I posted a link to the DPCA Albino section and clicked "unlike" from their page.

Hopefully some people will read it and the light bulb will go off.

Thats really sad, its one thing to acknowledge your mistake. and move forward. but to defend it to the T and then have more people backing you is just stupid.

unfortunately facebook has plenty of these pages littered with ignorance. much worse than the dogs. I recently unfollowed a page named something to the tune of "uncle sam's...." because i was tired of the ignorant rhetoric i kept seeing on there.

The newsfeed is bad enough

That may be the same bunch of byb that group together and pat each other on the back, swap dogs and just generally try to promote ignorance.

They've been discussed here before. Best to just stay off as you can't fix that ignorant bunch of byb.

Welcome from Kansas. If I had those people on my FB then I unfriended them, too. I see several Doberman info sites through my FB, but then again they aren't the ones on breeders or breeding. I agree with the others about trying to educate people. Hell, I don't know much of anything, but the things I've learned since getting my Doberman and trying to tell the general population anything, well, let's just say that you can get better results spitting on a forest fire.
It's one thing to say something to those people that are "greeders" because basically you are hitting them in the pocketbook. But what really GETS me is the idiots who are BUYING the "rare, unigue, special WHITE" Dobermans. Those are the ones that I have a hard time with, them NOT believing all of the information not only from people who have rescued Albinos, but from the ligit information that is there for the reading. :screama::2hammers::mad2::soapbox:
Oh sorry, did I say Welcome to you for being on DT?

I do not think you were wrong but I know people hear/read what they want and ignore the rest. As to her claim of breeding healthy pups, well anyone that has adopted an albino can certainly try to set her straight on that, though chances are she would not hear one word.

I think it is sad that people take something like this and try to make it seem right or just in any way. I lived within 10 miles of one of the worst puppy mills in history and learned only after I saw her with the "white" dogs, exactly what they were and how bad owning one would be, if I had not gone home and done my research on them I could have ended up one of the poor people duped by a greedy idiot. I am glad I never fell into the trap, as it would have been sure heartbreak for me.

Holy moses!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ruthie: thank you for the link!

My only hope is that *someone* takes the time to click on the DPCA link I posted and actually READ about the Albinos and that they retain SOME of the information that maybe provokes them to probe further and get educated to some extent. If even ONE person takes the time ... probably not ... but hoping anyway

I am part of a Doberman group on Facebook as well and made a comment about how this one fawn dog was handsome but chunky. He was a big boy but definitely overweight at 120 pounds. He has a bigger frame and definitely would be a 100 pound dog. Suddenly myself and someone else who agreed with me were being called cyber bullies among other things.
