We finally heard it!

I knew we would hear it eventually. We take Bella everywhere and she's really good about lying under tables when we eat and not bothering us or anyone else. Well today we took her to one of our favorite lunch places. Imagine my surprise when the owner decides to play waiter for a day and he sees Bella lying under his table just minding her business and watching birds fly when all of a sudden he has someone else serve us our food! We were kind of taken back but understood (sometimes people are funny) and didn't say anything, then after we were done eating, he stands by the door and apologizes to us and then goes on to say he had a horrible experience with a Doberman, and then he goes on to tell us we should prepare ourselves because eventually they all turn on their owners its what they were bred for!!! WTH!!! seriously? All I could do was smile and say it's not their fault, their brains swell larger than their skulls it's metabolic, we have metal suits and an escape route out of our home and are totally prepared. It happens when they turn two we have a few more months. The look on this poor mans face was priceless but silly as it sounds I have resolved myself to answer totally stupid comments or questions with even more ridiculous answers. I know I probably shouldn't have given him that answer but gees, people never cease to amaze me with their dumbness. He just smiled and said he was glad we were prepared. Really? I nearly choked through the rest of our lunch laughing once he walked away. Poor Bella all she wanted was a French fry and a hug.

Ooh lawdy.. My own mother tried to explain the breed will turn on me when I told her I was getting a Doberman. After that nothing else could surprise me... my own mother :lala:
Back in 1977, fresh out of College and just before we were married, I told my mom "we are expecting"...and she was going to be a new grandma.
- she wasn't too happy, and relieved when I said it was a 4 legged baby, until I mentioned the bad word "doberman"
Mom said they turn on their owners, I replied BS...don't let it eat raw meat with blood in it...makes them "go off" her reply

After we got our puppy, my mom warmed up to our new addition and because i allowed it to lay on the couch, now the farm dog could as well.
- a few years later, mom did say, her early comments were pretty stupid...we all laughed together and I could now agree with my mom

Oh me me me!!!

I was on a plane the other day and finally heard it. This guy was going on and on about his marvelous German Shepard and how people don't understand them and react poorly to them and breed ambassador etc...

Then when I said I had a doberman, he looked at me with a straight face and told me that their brains outgrow the skulls and they go crazy. I was polite and didn't laugh in his face but really? After the lecture about stereotypes I get this?

I told him I wasn't worried about that, but my first reaction was oh boy she's going to grow a brain at some point!!!!!!!

I was in the lobby at work with Morgan one day when a client told me to be careful because eventually her brain would swell and she would turn on me. One of the vets turned to the client and said, oh no, not her dobermans. We surgically implanted pressure valves in their skulls to release any pressure when her brain swells to keep her from turning on us. Poor guy asked what a procedure like that cost, she said it was a case by case basis lol

Doberman in Eatery's

We had one of our past Dobes in a small town bar( we didn't want to leave him in the Jeep), so Satan stayed under the table and we told the group of ladies that came in that he was a seeing eye dog. Well, we weren't blind, but we acted blind that night. Got up and left, no one said anything about having a Dobe there. These ladies just got out of their Weight Watcher's meeting, they could have cared less. Yep I have heard the "brain growing" stories. I told people it holds the same for men!!!!!

After we let Oliver go, and before we got Lexi, a women I walk the dogs with, asked me if we were going to get another dog and I told her I wanted to get another dobe. Then she said, "Oh no, not another crazy one". All I could say was, there not all crazy. I walked away in tears. I couldn't believe someone would say something so insensitive.
