| I have sort of the same problem, but I can truthfully say I have a fenced yard (enclosure) because on our largish property we DO have a fenced 12x25 "potty run". Our pup does get all his exercise with backcountry hikes and dog park playing, with some leash walking thrown in. Perhaps with a portion of your yard devoted to a dog pen you might be able to persuade a breeder to take a chance with you. |

| Yeah, this is a tough one... it makes sense - Reputable breeders usually have more inquiries than puppies, and can therefore be choosy of the homes their pups go to. A fenced yard is very desirable for any dog, especially a Doberman puppy, and probably very helpful when applying as a prospective home. It's important for dogs to be able to run around in a secure area - I don't think walking alone provides enough exercise for this breed.
Perhaps if you discussed this directly with the breeders you're interested in, and explain what you will do differently to exercise and relieve your dog. Describe in detail a typical daily routine of bathroom breaks, random outdoor playtime, walks, where your Dobe will run etc. If you come across as confident in your abilities to provide your Doberman with everything he/she will need, even without a fenced yard, then maybe a breeder would consider making an exception for an otherwise very good home. It certainly couldn't hurt to chat with them about it, if you are indeed very serious.
Good Luck! |

| Hi there!
I know that you really want a dog and you're having problems with breeders concerning their requirements. Sometimes they can be copious and discouraging if you don't have the means to comply or simply don't want to.
Instead of thinking of a way around it, try to think about why they want to you have a fenced area for your dog. It's a safe place to run in, go potty, or simply relax in while you're busy.
It actually is a good thing when a breeder asks for that, since there are so many BYBs who don't even care where you live.
Reputable breeders want the dog to be safe from other bad things like people trying to steal them, other predators attacking, or from getting lost...
The heartache if anything bad should happen resulting from not having a enclosed, safe area for your dog is tremendous and breeders try to prevent that or at least lower your chances.
I suggest you think about buying a dog run like the previous poster stated, secondhand ones are easy to find on CL which is a good option if you don't really like it, but need it.
If you are really set on not having a small area for your dog, just explain to the breeder your position, I'm sure you can find a happy medium.
Good Luck with your decision and your search for a breeder!

| Is there a reason that you couldn't fence your yard?

| have to say I ask for a fenced yard too, a dobe needs a safe place to just hang out. now that the weather is improving my guys love to hang out in the yard. I did sell a pup to a girl without a fenced yard, but he is her only dependent, and very catered too. it is a tough decision, and frustrating for those wanting a dobe without having a fence, but I know I am overly protective of where I will let a pup go. |
