This is VERY Disturbing!

I came across this website and I find it very disturbing. It describes the Doberman as an outside dog because they have lots of energy. It also says that they are only Black and Tan or Brown and Tan. The picture also looks like the poor dog got a botched ear crop. Check it out!

I think that they meant "active" instead of "outside" but its still a bad mistake to make. Also, red and tan is referred to as brown and tan in europe. even so, definitely a terrible picture poor puppy's ears!

LOL, Brum. I'm sorry. You made me giggle. I crop Jordan's all the time. LOL. Now, he's looking at me funny.

Cspell, I couldn't leave my dobers outside. They would drive me nuts with the ruckes they would keep up until I let them in. That looks like a sweet dog though, look at it's face. The info isn't all bad aside from that goof at the end.

The Gulf Coast Doberman Rescue has a female named Olivia that has ears JUST like that. And a red boy named Blaze who's ears are similar. Very sweet faces under those poor ears!

I feel like I've barely scratched the surface of knowledge about Dobies with my research so far...but I'm confident I could write a far more complete and accurate description of the breed than that one.

Ok, now I looked at it! I think this description was written by someone who does not speak english as a first language - so it would not surprise me that they just used words incorrectly.......... English is a very difficult language to master .... just ask some of our members who speak it as a second or third or even forth language. In reading the outdoor part, I did not get the sense that they were advocating leaving them to live outside although it is very true that many people would interperet it that way.

I find those ears disturbing and the eye goobers too! Just an overall not a good picture to represent a breed with.

Yeah, but even an incorrect Corso/Presa/Dogo crop. It's terrible. Poor thing. It's like after they were cropped they were just flipped back on top of his head and left there to set.

That is very misleading.... And we all wonder why we see Dobermans chained outside with a rubberband crop and dock. :(

Oh my, poor pup. Although, my gunner's ears went like that for a while while in the taping stage.... they'd flop down, or one would be bent over his head while the other stood or at one time they were folded over each other on his head. thank doG they're not now! He looks like those ears are a military crop. seem too short though.

What's even more disturbing to me is when you click the link for dog bites, front and center is a dobie with teeth bared and looking like it's ready to lunge.

I agree, that website is horribly written. I actaully sent an e-mail (there is a link for comments at the bottom of the page) mentioning that the website was inaccuratly portraying the bread. I mentioned the fact that dobes are inside dogs and need to feel as part of teh family, etc... Anyways, perhaphs they may reeval the site. I think this webpage does not help in showing off the true dobe nature, and rather just mentiones its a good guard dog or somthing more negaitve or unfriendly.

If you read it, it appears that the person who wrote it has English as a second language. They may mean that the dog loves to do outdoor things with the owner. Also in Europe the only recognized breed colors are black/tan or brown/tan. Yeah the ears in the pic look like a butcher job.

oh that is horrible. I wrote to them and told them the same. explained all the colors, temperment and housing also about the bad photo that is listed. Hope they will change the listing on the website to a better one. maybe if we all contact the website they will change it. Go for it DT and tell them how a Doberman is!

Just goes to show that a little info can be a dangerous thing. Not all websites are created equal. I sent in a comment as well suggesting that they perhaps check out the AKC or DPCA sites for info about the breed. Am hoping that the Dobe pictured just has his/her photo taken from a bad angle because am not thrilled with what looks like a botched crop, and certainly hope someone doesn't see it and think that's how a Dobe's ears should look...

What an ugly crop!! The poor guy. I think that the advertisement meant that it was a good idea to have lots of outside exercise. I couldn't picture any of my past or present guys living in a dog house! Who knows, maybe as Velma said, they were not english speaking (1st language) people.

Ok , I was all pepared to be apalled, but couldn't help but giggle. Those ears.... Kind of like someone Rudolph and Hermie would hang out with. Poor fellow!

That piece of info was definitely written by someone who has English as a second language (and doesn't have it down too well). It reminds me of some of the directions I get on items I buy off of eBay!! Anyway, someone pulled various bits of info from other sites and tried to write it with very poor results. The photo is a horror.
