First of all, I want to say I like this forum better.
I think this new forum posted is pretty divided, by posting Euro or American Doberman as a whole section. What about ones that are "both". Or for that matter, who decides what is Euro or American? Please define for me. If I brought my dogs from Germany and they had a litter born on American soil, are they considered American? Well with what generation are they considered "American"? What if that dog born in Germany fits perfectly the standard in the US. Only a mere 100 years ago all our Dobes came from one area. Not really that long ago.
Most Dobes have a lot of different influences all over the world, but they are still all Dobermans. From Japan, to Africa, to Canada, to Mexico, to Australia, to all the places all over the world, why do they have to fit in a book of European or American?
I believe in this breed as a WHOLE. I hate the division and all of the stereotypes, most of which are very far from true, it just hurts and divides a breed.
To expand further on my first part. What about Asian Dobes? Do they get their own section too? Or BYB Dobes, which can be found all over the world? Or BYB breeders, also found all over the world? Or Reputable bred Dobes, also found all over the world? Or Dobes with titles? Let's break those down too, to divide even more. Or Dobes that work as hunters? Or Dobes that work in agility? Or Dobes that show in AKC or some other ring? Or Dobes that work as service dogs, do we have to know their full background as well? Or Dobes that work as S&R dogs? Or Dobes that work in obedience? Or that work in SchH? Or Dobes that work as good ambassadors for the breed? Or Dobes that work as police dogs? Or Dobes that have protected their owner when it really counts just because they have the proper temperament? Or what about Dobes that do it all and are working in several different venues? Or are just a great family pet?
I love their versatility as a breed, they can do all those things above, and more. I guess what I am trying to say is I really have a problem with people thinking one sport defines a Doberman, like it their whole purpose for being, to participate in a sport. I admit I highly enjoy dog sports and am an active participant and know it gives you important insights and I believe in dog sports and am glad to see people working their Dobes in all venues, but it isn't the reason for the breed to exist, to play in sports.
The Dobe was created to protect their person, and this is suppose to come natural to the breed. That is the Doberman purpose. To be a personal companion and protector. And many do their job, and do it well. Even if they aren't specifically trained for that. I have countless stories of my Dobes protecting me and my family when I was growing up. I am not alone in this.
I would like to continue going with this thought and properly wrap my thoughts but I have 5 people waiting on me to finish cooking dinner! I keep sneaking in here on the computer, but I don't want to burn the bread! And I know this post won't let me edit soon to finish my thoughts.
