| Dancing Doberman disease? A woman I work with just adopted a dobe and is full-blown head over heels for this girl. She has dancing doberman disease and I was wondering if there is anything that can help the symptoms. Is there something that can be supplemented like for head tremors, or is she just destined to be a prancy pants? Are there any good sites about this? |

| Most welcome, everybody. It's another one of those wonderful things unique to this breed that *ahem* careful breeding has created.

| | Banned | I believe Mars may have DDD. He started out with an odd limp last week for no apparent reason.I couldnt really even tell witch leg was bothering him. couldnt even tell if it was the front or hind legs. the limp lasted for about three days the entire time he was limping he seemed to all of a sudden be ok when we were outside all he wanted to do was play run, jump and pull me around the yard to investigate everything. then he seemed to be acting a little strange again last night for some reason he refused to sleep on his bed, i figured maybe it might be getting a little to small for him so i pulled out an old foam matress out the spare bedroom folded it in half thinking he might prefer to lay on that since he could stretch out. He did seem to perfer it. But this morning he was limping again. and again for no apparent reason. all day long his limp has progressively gotten worse. All symptoms point to DDD. I finally decided to give him a 50MG Tramadol. as at first i thought maybe he was showing symtoms of CHD. but that did nothing and the limp has progressed to get worse. One thing ive noticed is that when he goes to lay down he just drop his hip on the ground like a stone falling outta the sky. he somtimes does this so hard he will shake the entire house. He has however always done this but since hes gotton bigger he drop harder. Im really hoping this is just a self inflicked sore hip but i really dont know. He seems like hes in pain while inside unless he falls asleep he cant stay on one piece of furniture for more the a couple of minutes at a time. So far he still has an appitite. he still asks to go outside to do his buisness. but he almost fell down the stairs on the porch. other then that he dosent seem to want to do anything other then try like mad to get comfortable. the last time he needed to go out i decided to carry him down the stairs. the second he was done wizzin he started to act as normal as ever jumping up and down trying to bite my arms even running around the yard and tryed to instate a game of catch with his tennis ball. But the second we got back in the house he began to favor his right rear leg again and instantly got all mopy again. We will be going to the vets on monday to figure this out. But it really is starting to sound and look like DDD. So maybe some extra prayers for my little buddy will tide him over till monday.

Isn't Mars quite young? 5 month it says on your avatar location but I'm never sure if people are updating that or not. If he's that young, transient lameness moving from leg to leg sounds a whole lot more like panosteitis (pano for short) and if this continues you should get him in to see a vet--pano can be diagnosed pretty easily during an episode and they can give you appropriate instructions about management during the episodes. |

Oddly this is the first day since i got him he hasnt whined once | Blitz -- it sounds like you're talking about a rear leg being lame. If so, read my Cobra's story which is linked on my profile. You could be dealing with a tearing or completely torn ACL.

| | Banned | Thanks everyone. I thought id update ya. This morning started out pretty much the same way we left things last night but after a good looonnnggg nap he woke up acting better mentally, and physically hes been improving aton just in the last couple of hours. as a matter of fact he just took off after the cat like is old self a few minutes ago. I cant wait to get to the vets tomorrow and get his X-Rays done so we can figure this out. |

But Mars still has Pano. since the vet visit it has decreased a bit, every now and then he still has a flare up. Nothing like it was at first. The only thing i had to do to help Mars out was switch up his feeding a bit. We switched from Canadie to Eagle Pack, and he now gets a 1000 mg vitamin C tab daily and some supplements from the vets. and finally on the bad days witch are rare now some pain meds i forget what the vet prescribed thou. I wish all the best for you and your Dober Companion.
