| Involuntary bowel movements..what to do? I have a 9 year old Doberman who has been diagnosed with Wobbler's. We have started treating her with Metacam to see if it will relieve the pain and help her get up/lie down easily. Since this time she has started having bowel movements in the house! This is very annoying because despite going for a walk and being outside she will not go and then does it in the house. The problem here is that it seems to be involuntary, as in it just "comes out" without her getting into the "position".... it just comes out as she is walking... (sorry!) On top of this she ate some of her feces today before i managed to clean all of it up. Thankfully she has not had diarrhea since this started. I have a vet appointment on Saturday but would appreciate any advice or help. Has anyone had a similar situation with their dog? any advice related to the wobblers would also be appreciated! Thanks! |

| Poor girl. It sounds like she has a lot of inflammation around her vertabre which in turn causes the vertabre to tilt and pinch off blood supply to the nerves. Which impares the nerves and would cause her to involuntarily pass stools. Does metacam act as an inflammatory?
I have heard of gold bead implants that help, also neck braces and acupuncture. I will try and find some articles on these for you. Also a naturopathic Vet may be able to prescribe a homeopathic remedie that suits her individual symptoms. Give your girl a hug for me. Take care. |

| If she can really not control, it the only thing you could really do is doggie diapers or stay with her outside for an extended amount of time. |

| I'm sorry to hear that your girl is not doing well. Ask the vet what they think and I know that someone on here suggested the gold bead implants, saying that they worked quite well for them?

| I'm sorry to hear about the wobbler's. We used Rimadyl over an extended period to keep the inflammation down and it worked well. Your vet will probably want to test her liver enzymes before prescribing it, though.
There is a recent thread in this forum on Wobblers (Zeus). You might want to take a look at it. They took the surgery route, but I've also heard good things about the gold beads. |
