| | Alpha | Thyroid full panel I have read the classic signs of possible thyroid issues. Has anyone had a thyroid problem that there were not any signs and the test was done and it came back there was a problem and your dog had to be put on medication.
or
There were no signs except for occasional moods, in upward fashion not withdrawn? |

There were no signs except for occasional moods, in upward fashion not withdrawn? | if you are asking about the possibility of a dog who didn't start loosing coat in the typical thyroid pattern (behind the ears, top of the head, flanks), didn't have an unexplained weight gain, wasn't cold sensitive the answer is yes indeed.
this was on an almost seven year old dog who had started thyroid testing when he was two. he had full panels which were entirely normal at 2, 4 & 6 & i was going to start running yearly panels at seven. i pretty much do this on all my dogs--hypothyroidsim is dead common in dobes & i really don't like to wait until they have a bunch of symptoms. the first real symptom came when my friend who runs my dogs in agility came out of the ring on a non-qualifying run saying ..."he's becoming a blond--his attention span has evaporated!"
i had a flash on that comment--it may not be a common k-9 symptom of low thyroid but it's a known one in people. we ran a full panel on him on monday & by friday he was on a thyroid suppliment.
i don't know how old your dog is but if there were behavioral changes or any of the common thyroid symptoms i'd have him checked. i start checking at two on everyone and if i know that the dog has hypothyroid parents or collateral relatives who are hypothyroid i'd check even earlier . |

| Rommel has a beautiful coat, is nowhere near being overweight.....and has a very low thyroid without medication.
He is sensitive to cold though. I figured it was just because he is a spoiled rotten dobe, but I guess it could be his thyroid

| Most of the time, I don't see a physical indication of a problem when one of my Dobes tests hypothyroid during routine screening. |

| And poor Rah, he has almost every symptom and I cannot get the damn dog to test hypothyroid at all.

| | Alpha | More than once I've found that using hindsight there *were* symptoms, but they were so subtle I didn't realize it at the time, until the dog tested hypothyroid. When the lightbulb goes on is when you see positive changes after the dog goes on thyroid meds.
